ABSTRACT
To evaluate the adherence to practice guidelines for epidural insertion along with medicines used postoperative analgesia and incidence of complications. Clinical audit. Place Duration Study: Doctors Hospital Medical Centre, Lahore, Pakistan, from January 2021 December 2023. Non-probability consecutive sampling technique was collect data. After approval conduct this audit obtained Ethical Committee hospital, data were collected Surgical Epidural Registers anaesthesia department. All calculations done manually then put in Microsoft Word Document. A total 308 surgical epidurals inserted over period three years. Procedures constituted 125 (40.6%) orthopaedic procedures, 41 (13.31%) thoracic surgery 36 (11.7%) general 25 (8.11%) hepatobiliary 14 (4.54%) urology 12 (3.89%) gynaecological procedures. Level as per recommended 200 (64.9%) patients out 308. Bupivacaine most commonly medicine, 0.1% concentration generally preferred authors' setup. Among adjuvants, fentanyl, dexmedetomidine, tramadol used. Overall complication rate 40 (12.98%), motor blockade being common, followed by nausea/vomiting, hypotension, dural tap, blood tap. This will help rectifying loopholes services provided study centre, but also other service providers make changes their practices better outcomes future. analgesia, Dural Blood Motor blockade, Bupivacaine.
