Analysis of the causes of misdiagnosis of acute retinal necrosis syndrome and our measure in preventing it

ABSTRACT
Objective To analyze the causes of misdiagnosis acute retinal necrosis syndrome (ARN),and possible critical points in preventing misdiagnosis.Methods Clinical data 81 cases (93 eyes) in-patients with ARN from May 2006 to 2012 Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center,Sun Yat-sen University were retrospectively analyzed.Results The average time first visit after appearance ocular symptoms was 7.03 days (1 21 days),86 eyes (91.36%) misdiagnosed total.There only 7 that correctly diagnosed at initial ophthalmic consultation.It took 31.11 (ranging 5 280 days) reach correct diagnose.Among eyes,22 (29.73%) experienced one misdiagnosis,35 (47.3%) twice and 17 (22.97%) had diagnosis three or even more examinations.Of 86 eye,55 (63.95%) labeled as uveitis,27 (31.40.%) kidocyclitis,28 (32.55%) other without explicit type uveitis.Fifteen (17.44%) conjunctivitis 3 (3.49%) glaucoma 13 (15.12%) others such retinitis,Eales disease,retinal artery occlusion hemorrhage.Conclusions is a easily severe eye diseases.Ophthalmic professional have be alert when come across various uveitis diseases.
