Abstract Studies of modeling processes have provided important insights in human evolutionary discipline. Most these studies are based on facial bones and much lesser extent other such as those from the cranial vault. Thus, this study fills a gap research by examining occipital bone subadults, adding individuals under 2 years old expanding sample size available to date. The comprise 14 subadults occipitals (4 months 5 years) archeological sites spanning thirteenth eighteenth century. Resin...

Genetic and environmental contributions to menarcheal age were studied in 267 Spanish girls women born between 1948 1981, their mothers 1922 1959 (n = 200). Recalled at menarche, as well family environment characteristics (family size, birth order, father's occupation educational level) obtained from each woman. Mean menarche (13.45 years; SD 1.51) was significantly (p < 0.01) greater than daughters (13.03 +/- 1.28 years). Year of size accounted for a significant amount the variation both...

Different estimates of heritability are presented for a set anthropometric characteristics taken in 844 individuals from 261 families living the Madrid city area (Spain). The data include measurements 10 craniofacial, 11 body skeletal (4 lengths and 7 breadths), 13 fat-related (weight, 3 circumferences, 6 skinfold thicknesses, mass index arm fat muscle areas). computed parent offspring show clear defined pattern (higher heritabilities longitudinal traits, followed by breadths, skinfolds,...

SummaryBody composition components are considered in a cross-sectional sample of 2564 children (age range 6–14 years) from Central Spain. The was divided depending on rural or urban residence. Weight, and skinfold at the triceps, biceps, subscapular suprailiac site were measured. Body represented by percentage fat (%F), lean body mass (LBM), (FM) sum skinfolds (SSK). Sex differences found to be highly significant for all variables rural-urban small. Rural boys show slightly larger content,...

Cheiloscopy is a comparatively recent counterpart to the long established dactyloscopic studies. Ethnic variability of these lip groove patterns has not yet been explored. This study was collaborative effort aimed at establishing cheiloscopic variations amongst modern human populations from four geographically and culturally far removed nations: India, Saudi Arabia, Spain Nigeria.Lip prints total 754 subjects were collected each divided into equal quadrants. The classified six regular types...

Abstract Measurements of stature and biacromial bicristal diameters were obtained for two samples young adult male university students, one from 1901 to 1919 the other 1989 1991. Means standard deviations calculated each measurement three indices. Significant positive trends in apparent between samples: 7.3 cm (4.4%), 3.6 (9.9%), 3.4 (12.5%), respectively. The results compared with Spanish beginning century present. These comparisons also showed secular changes, although differences among...

Assortative mating for 22 anthropometric and body composition characteristics social indicators was studied in a Spanish sample of 114 married couples. Significant spousal similarity found occupation, educational level number siblings. Sex-age adjusted spouse correlations were significant stature, ileospinal height, total arm length, biacromial breadth. Spouse not altered after allowance socioeconomic effects. When couples grouped according to marriage duration, differences mate fatness...

Abstract Objectives Studying rib torsion is crucial for understanding the evolution of hominid ribcage. Interestingly, there are variables cross section that could be associated with and, consequently, morphology thorax. The aim this research to conduct a comparative study shape and mineralized tissues in different hominids test significant differences if possible, associate them thoracic morphotypes. Materials Methods sample consists sections at midshaft taken from 10 Homo sapiens Pan...

Abstract Introduction From an evolutionary perspective, the ribcage has changed substantially in subfamily Homininae. Among many other features, amount of mineralized tissues rib cross‐section at midshaft could be informative about potential biomechanical changes during Homininae evolution. These would related to different loading stresses that each costal level deal with. Nevertheless, this knowledge remains hypothetical and never been properly addressed. Materials Methods This issue was...

Caregiving for disabled individuals among Neanderthals has been known a long time, and there is debate about the implications of this behavior. Some authors believe that caregiving took place between able to reciprocate favor, while others argue was produced by feeling compassion related other highly adaptive prosocial behaviors. The study children with severe pathologies particularly interesting, as have very limited possibility assistance. We present case Neanderthal child who suffered...
