The International Linear Collider (ILC) is on the table now as a new global energy-frontier accelerator laboratory taking data in 2030s. ILC addresses key questions for our current understanding of particle physics. It based proven technology. Its experiments will challenge Standard Model physics and provide window to look beyond it. This document brings story up date, emphasizing its strong motivation, readiness construction, opportunity it presents US community.
We present a proposal for cold copper distributed coupling accelerator that can provide rapid route to precision Higgs physics with compact 8 km footprint. This is based on recent advances increase the efficiency and operating gradient of normal conducting accelerator. technology also provides an $e^{+}e^{-}$ collider path at multi-TeV energies. In this article, we describe our vision near-term R&D program needed pursue it.
During stable-beams operations of the LHC, ATLAS High Level Trigger (HLT) offers fastest and most precise online measurement available position, size orientation luminous region at interaction point. Taking advantage high rate triggered events, a dedicated algorithm is executed on HLT processor farm several hundred nodes that uses tracks registered in silicon detectors to reconstruct event vertices. The distribution these vertices aggregated across its shape extracted through fits every 60...
The CORAL software is widely used at CERN by the LHC experiments to access data they store on relational databases, such as Oracle. Two new components have recently been added implement a model involving middle tier "CORAL server" deployed close database and tree of server proxies", providing caching multiplexing, client. A first implementation two components, released in summer 2009, now ATLAS online system read needed High Level Trigger, allowing configuration farm several thousand...
The ATLAS muon Cathode Strip Chamber (CSC) backend readout system has been upgraded during the LHC 2013-2015 shutdown to be able handle higher Level-1 trigger rate of 100 kHz and occupancy at Run-2 luminosity. design is based on Reconfigurable Cluster Element (RCE) concept for high bandwidth generic DAQ implemented Advanced Telecommunication Computing Architecture (ATCA) platform. RCE new System Chip XILINX ZYNQ series with a processor-centric architecture ARM processor embedded in FPGA...
The ATLAS experiment under construction at CERN is due to begin operation the end of 2007. detector will record results proton-proton collisions a center-of-mass energy 14 TeV. trigger three-tier system designed identify in real-time potentially interesting events that are then saved for detailed offline analysis. select approximately 200 Hz out 40 MHz bunch-crossing rate (with 109 interactions per second nominal luminosity).
The DAQ/HLT system of the ATLAS experiment at CERN, Switzerland, is being commissioned for first collisions in 2009. Presently, composed an already very large farm computers that accounts about one-third its final event processing capacity. Event selection conducted two steps after hardware-based Level-1 Trigger: a Level-2 Trigger processes detector data based on regions interest (RoI) and Filter operates full assembled by Building system. read out fully can be operated design This places...
In this article I report on new and updated measurements of the CP‐violating parameter β (φ1), which is related to phase Cabibbo‐Kobayashi‐Maskawa (CKM) quark‐mixing matrix electroweak interaction. Over past few years, has become most precisely known CKM unitarity triangle that governs B system. The results presented here were produced by two Factories, BABAR Belle, based their recent datasets over 600 million BB̄ events combined. world average for sin 2β, measured in theoretically...
