Abstract Reinforcement particle size is very important for the performance of metal ceramic composites. This work studied influence B 4 C on mechanical properties Al matrix layered These composites were fabricated using a simplified semicontinuous casting and hot-rolling process. To obtain an optimized filling structure particles, Horsfield principle was applied to determine mass fraction particles. Four sizes particles used with various combinations. The results showed that increase fine...

A three-layered composite material, consisting of an Al outer layer and a 7075-10 wt % B4C inner layer, was fabricated by semi-continuous casting following hot rolling process. The exhibits clear layered structure with good interfacial bond between layers. In the sessile drop experiment, alloy melt dropped on 7075-B4C at 650 °C, contact angle decreasing from 105° to 25° in 50 s, indicating that infiltration spreading both played important roles wetting reinforced particles were distributed...

Abstract In this paper, the effect of casting speed on fabricating Al-1%Mn and Al-10%Si alloy clad slab was investigated. Before trials with semi-continuous process were conducted, a series simulation engineering software FLUENT made to forecast influence temperature field liquid fraction slab. The results indicated that increase reduces time in cooling zone, thus thickness solidification shell under dividing plate gets thinner. Based results, successfully produced by process. interface...
