Pain management in dogs and cats has undergone a dramatic evolution the past decade. Current approaches focus on anticipation prevention of pain, as well both pharmacologic non-pharmacologic techniques. The veterinary team plays an essential role educating pet owners about recognizing managing pain their pets.
The Langmuir−Blodgett deposition of organically passivated gold nanoparticles is reported. A monolayer these particles has been incorporated into a metal−insulator−semiconductor (MIS) structure. MIS device exhibits hysteresis in its capacitance versus voltage characteristic, the magnitude which dependent on sweep conditions. Charge storage layer thought to be responsible for this effect.
A new ambipolar molecule based on a carbazole−fluorene−oxadiazole triad is reported. In single-active-layer device, the compound reveals deep-blue electroluminescence with CIE coordinates of (0, 157, 0.079). An external quantum efficiency 4.7% achieved if material formed into thin layer by thermal evaporation.
In this paper, we focus on the synthesis and structure of new bis(1,3,4-oxadiazole) system 2,5-bis[2-(4-tert-butylphenyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazol-5-yl]pyridine (PDPyDP). We have fabricated light-emitting diodes (LEDs) using poly[2-methoxy-5-(2-ethylhexoxy)-1,4-phenylene vinylene] (MEH−PPV) as emissive material, with without a thermally evaporated electron-injection/hole-blocking layer either PDPyDP or its vinylene analogue (E)-1,2-bis[2-(4-tert-butylphenyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazol-5-yl]ethene (PDVDP)...
The second-order nonlinear optical properties of a hemicyanine-dye-containing monolayer are measured by using second-harmonic generation. An unexpected large enhancement the signal from dye is observed on dilution optically passive fatty acid, with maximum occurring at around 50% dilution. Possible mechanisms discussed.
This work describes bipolar 2,5-diaryl-1,3,4-oxadiazole–fluorene hybrids which incorporate triphenylamine or carbazole units within the π-electron system, viz. compounds 7, 8, 14 and 16. A related bis(oxadiazolyl)pyridine system 20 is reported. The syntheses of these five new materials are discussed, along with their optoelectronic absorption emission properties, solution electrochemical redox properties. Anodic electropolymerisation was observed. Calculations using DFT (density functional...
The electrical characteristics of pentacene-based organic thin film transistors (OTFTs) using poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) as the gate dielectric are reported. Uniform pinhole-free and crack-free films PMMA could be obtained by spin coating, with a lower limit thickness about 150 nm. effects insulator channel dimensions on performance devices have been investigated. Leakage currents, which present in many polymeric dielectrics, were reduced patterning pentacene active layer. resulting...
We report direct imaging of nanoscale thermal transport in single and few-layer graphene with approximately 50 nm lateral resolution using high vacuum scanning microscopy. observed increased heat suspended where is conducted by ballistic phonons, compared to adjacent areas supported graphene, decreasing conductance layer number. Our nanothermal images suggest a mean-free-path phonons below 100 nm.
A synthetically versatile strategy has been employed for luminescence colour tuning in a new series of bipolar carbazole–2,5-diaryl-1,3,4-oxadiazole hybrid molecules 1–7. Their syntheses, solution absorption and emission properties cyclic voltammetric data are reported. Calculations using DFT (density functional theory) establish that they possess molecular orbitals which favour charge-transport. Single-active-layer organic light emitting devices (OLEDs) have fabricated by thermal...
This article reviews progress in modifying electrode surfaces with functional organic molecules which act as signalling units upon molecular recognition of a guest molecule or ion. process triggers change the physicochemical properties host assembly can be monitored by an electrochemical response. Topics covered include: conjugated polymers; monolayers formed Langmuir-Blodgett and self techniques; incorporation sites ('molecular gates') otherwise passivating monolayers; ion channel sensors....
We describe the synthesis of three new isomeric 1,3,4-oxadiazole–pyridine hybrids, namely: 2,6-, 3,5- and 2,4-bis[2-(4-tert-butylphenyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazol-5-yl]pyridine, (PDPy-2,6, PDPy-3,5 PDPy-2,4, respectively) a 1,3,4-oxadiazole–pyrimidine hybrid, 2,5-bis[2-(4-tert-butylphenyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazol-5-yl]pyrimidine (PDPmDP). The X-ray crystal structures are reported for PDPy-2,4 known phenylene analogue 1,3-bis[2-(4-tert-butylphenyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazol-5-yl]benzene (OXD-7) as 1∶1 toluene solvate....
Nearly 30 years after theoretical prediction, a stable and well-characterized compound that covalently links tetrathiafulvalene tetracyanoquinodimethane fragments has been synthesized (1, see scheme). The extremely low HOMO–LUMO gap of 1 (0.17 eV) allows the first observation thermoexcited electron transfer in donor–acceptor diad. Langmuir–Blodgett films are not electrically conducting.
