Background— Erectile dysfunction (ED) is common in patients with congestive heart failure (CHF). ED reduces quality of life, and it may affect compliance, thereby impairing the success CHF treatment. Methods Results— In first phase (fixed-dose double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled, two-way crossover study), we studied 23 men effects 50 mg sildenafil on exercise neurohormonal activation. Patients underwent a treadmill 6-minute cardiopulmonary walking (6′WT) test followed by maximal...
National studies on decompensated heart failure (DHF) are key to the understanding of this condition in our midst. To determine characteristics DHF patients an emergency department.A total 212 diagnosed with who had been admitted department (EU) a cardiology hospital were prospectively evaluated. Clinical variables, form presentation and causes decompensation studied. In 100 patients, ancillary tests, prescription vasoactive drugs, length stay mortality also analyzed. There was predominance...
The 6-minute walk test is an way of assessing exercise capacity and predicting survival in heart failure. was suggested to be similar that daily activities. We investigated the effect motivation during failure. We studied 12 males, age 45 +/- years, ejection fraction 23 7%, functional class III. Patients underwent following tests: maximal cardiopulmonary on treadmill (max), with walking rhythm maintained between relatively easy slightly tiring (levels 11 13 Borg scale) (6EB), using usual...
CONTEXT AND OBJECTIVE Acute coronary syndromes (ACS) are a common cause of intensive care unit (ICU) admission. Specific prognostic scores have been developed and validated for ACS patients and, among them, GRACE (Global Registry Coronary Events) has had the best performance. However, clinicians generally use from heterogeneous populations critically ill patients, such as APACHE IV (Acute Physiologic Chronic Health Evaluation IV) SAPS 3 (Simplified Physiology Score 3). The aim this study was...
To describe the clinical features and outcomes of patients admitted with influenza A (H1N1) infection in two private hospitals' intensive care units São Paulo, Brazil, during 2009 pandemics.A retrospective cohort study was conducted to evaluate demographic data, initial presentation, prognostic scores [Simplified Acute Physiology Score (SAPS) 3 Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA)], comorbidities, treatment confirmed pandemic diagnosis from July September 2009.22 were admitted. Median...
It has been reported that growth hormone may benefit selected patients with congestive heart failure. A 63-year-old man refractory failure waiting for transplantation, depending on intravenous drugs (dobutamine) and presenting progressive worsening of the clinical status cachexia, despite standard treatment, received replacement (8 units per day) optimization management. Increase in both serum levels (from 0.3 to 0.8 mg/l) IGF-1 130 300ng/ml) was noted, association improvement, better...
