We present a study on the electrochemical behavior of magnesium hydroxide (MgOH + ) reduction tungsten (W) cathode in molten chloride salt (MgCl 2 -KCl-NaCl) across temperature range 475 °C–525 °C. MgOH , which forms within upon exposure to moisture, is leading cause corrosion. Corrosion major barrier deployment salts number applications, including concentrating solar power plants and nuclear plants. While pre-purification protocols have been developed ensure removed from prior deployment,...

The presence of Cu in reactions triphenylene (TRPH) and 1,4-C4 F8 I2 at 360 °C led to regiospecific substitution TRPH ortho C(β) atoms form C4 -containing rings, completely suppressing on C(α) atoms. In addition, caused selective reductive-defluorination/aromatization (RD/A) F4 aromatic rings. Without Cu, the were not no RD/A was observed. These results, supported by DFT calculations, are first examples Cu-promoted 1) perfluoroannulation, 2) preparative C-F activation, 3) RD/A. HPLC-purified...

In a simple, one-step direct trifluoromethylation of phenazine with CF3 I we prepared and characterized nine (poly)trifluoromethyl derivatives up to six groups. The electrochemical reduction potentials gas-phase electron affinities show direct, strict linear relation the number groups, phenazine(CF3)6 reaching record-high affinity 3.24 eV among perfluoroalkylated polyaromatics.

Abstract Molten chloride salts are stable at higher temperatures than many other salts, including nitrate and thus promising for heat transfer and/or thermal energy storage in concentrating solar power, nuclear applications. However, corrosion molten remains a significant problem. While studies have been devoted to evaluation of corrosion, we find that comprehensive method predicting is lacking. Here, present an using Ellingham diagrams chloride-oxide stability diagrams, which enable...

A series of cyclometalated benzoquinoline complexes Ir(III) catalyze the hydrogenation heterocyclic ring quinolines under mild conditions. Our best catalyst is active in a significantly wider range solvents than our previous systems. In presence suitable base, species also able to hydrogenate C═O bonds aldehydes. When and aldehydes are present together, complex catalyzes tandem reaction which quinoline first hydrogenated tetrahydroquinoline that subsequently reductively alkylated by...

For commercial buildings, liquid desiccant air conditioners (LDACs) could provide up to 80% energy savings compared high-efficiency vapor compression AC, but commonly utilized desiccants are highly corrosive. This precludes the use of metallic components, necessitating specialized plastics and thereby driving cost, weight, limiting operational temperature pressure ranges. Less corrosive alternatives sought. Here, potassium acetate solutions investigated as less-corrosive chloride salt that...

Molten salts are an excellent choice for thermal energy storage materials in concentrated solar power (CSP) plants, yet some can cause corrosion of containment alloys that damage plants and increase maintenance costs. Corrosion rates have been characterized many salt/alloy combinations. However, at junctions dissimilar molten relatively poorly characterized. At such junctions, which common CSP it is possible galvanic interactions or other mechanisms could above the industry standard 20...

The utility of molten chloride salts in concentrating solar power (CSP) is dependent on the ability to maintain low corrosive impurities. Without proper purification, corrosion rates containment alloys exceed industry standard corrosion—under 20 μm/year. An extensive body literature focuses initial purification stage salts. However, occurrences such as maintenance, leaks, and so forth expose salt atmosphere reintroduce Therefore, it critical develop a strategy that can control impurity...
