Urban development, growing industrialization, and increasing demand for mobility have led to elevated levels of air pollution in many large cities Latin America, where quality standards WHO guidelines are frequently exceeded. The conurbation the metropolitan area La Paz/El Alto is one fastest urban settlements South America with particularity being located a very complex terrain at high altitude. As or areas, Altiplano region facing deterioration. Long-term measurement data equivalent black...
CIMEL is well known for its CE318 photometer, equipping AERONET network. The polarized sun/sky/lunar photometer (CE318-TP) maybe less known, but it offers polarization measurements in 9 channels a wide spectral range (340-1640 nm) and has been shown to improve the retrieval of real part refractive index, fine mode size distribution particle shape parameter, especially small particles, reduce inversion errors by 30% [1,2]. If polarizers alignment issues have observed mechanical setup before,...
Abstract. The Earth's oceans play a critical role in regulating the global climate and atmospheric processes, with marine aerosols significantly influencing weather patterns, air quality, dynamics. Despite extensive land-based aerosol monitoring through networks like AERONET (AErosol RObotic NETwork), characterization remains gap, due part to logistical challenges of conducting measurements remote oceanic environments. To address this, robust, automated, precise systems adapted for research...
Abstract. We present a comprehensive characterization of the optical properties various aerosol types based on data collected using compact dual-wavelength depolarization elastic lidar (532 and 808 nm, CIMEL CE376). This study evaluates vertical distribution temporal evolution aerosols observed in subtropical North Atlantic region, covering Saharan dust, volcanic aerosols, fresh aged wildfire plumes. Measurements were conducted between August 2021 2023, modified two-wavelength Klett...
The Latin American Lidar Network (LALINET) is the aerosol lidar network operating over South America. LALINET now an operative performing a schedule of routine measurements and, currently, composed by 9 stations distributed main objective to generate consistent and statistically relevant database enhance understanding particle distribution continent its direct indirect influence on climate. creation un-biased spatiotemporal requires throughout review two pillars: instrumentation data...
Abstract. We present the capabilities of a compact dual-wavelength depolarization lidar to assess spatiotemporal variations in aerosol properties aboard moving vectors. Our approach involves coupling lightweight Cimel CE376 lidar, which provides measurements at 532 and 808 nm nm, with photometer monitor properties. The assessments, both algorithmic instrumental, were conducted ATOLL (ATmospheric Observatory LiLle) platform operated by Laboratoire d'Optique Atmosphérique (LOA), Lille, France....
The Latin American Lidar Network, ALINE a.k.a LALINET is a federation lidar network established in 2008 which became member of GALION/GAW program 2013. Currently the consists 9 operational stations with perspective two more to be included. today covers than 18 million Km2 and spans latitude from -52° 21° longitude -78° -47°. It should cover larger area future as planned inclusion active stations.
Abstract. We present a characterization of the optical properties different aerosol types based on data collected using compact dual-wavelength depolarization elastic lidar (532 and 808 nm, CIMEL CE376). evaluate vertical distribution temporal evolution variety aerosols observed in subtropical North Atlantic region, covering from Saharan dust outbreaks volcanic to fresh aged wildfires, between August 2021 2023, modified two-wavelength Klett inversion method derive backscatter extinction...
LALINET lidar stations were used to track down aerosols generated over Amazon region and transported the continent. These data merged with collocated Aeronet in order help their identification together HYSPLIT simulations. The results show potential indication of how aerosol can age long transport regions South Westward from source areas by change optical properties.
LALINET is expanding regionally to guarantee spatial coverage over South and Central Americas. One of the network goals obtain a set regional representative aerosol optical properties such as particle backscatter, extinction lidar ratio. Given North-South extension influence distinct airmass circulation patterns it paramount distinguish these parameters in order gain better perfomance radiation transfer models. A ratio data presented.
