A wideband (dc to 500 Hz) low noise accelerometer has been developed. It makes use of a suspended mass whose displacement relative the supporting structure is sensed by linear variable differential transformer. works both in horizontal and vertical direction. The electronics connected mechanical through 12 m long cables. spectral sensitivity 7×10−10 (m/s2)/√Hz below 6 Hz. will be used perform an inertial damping resonances suspension mirrors VIRGO, interferometric antenna for gravitational...

The CMS silicon strip tracker, providing a sensitive area of approximately 200 m2 and comprising 10 million readout channels, has recently been completed at the tracker integration facility CERN. community is currently working to develop integrate online offline software frameworks, known as XDAQ CMSSW respectively, for purposes data acquisition detector commissioning monitoring. Recent developments have seen many new services tools within system, such event building, distributed analysis,...

In the context of concurrent engineering, this paper presents a quite innovative approach to collaborative optimization process, which couples multi-objective genetic algorithm with an asynchronous communication tool. This method allows and multi-sites design be performed without requiring significant investments or changes in company organization. To illustrate methodology, collaboration three European companies on ship hull is described. The shape automatically optimised distributing...

The data acquisition system for the CMS Silicon Strip Tracker (SST) is based around a custom analogue front-end ASIC, an optical link and off-detector VME board that performs digitization, zero-suppression formatting. A complex procedure required to optimally configure, calibrate synchronize 10 channels of SST readout system. We present overview this procedure, which will be used commission during integration, Start-Up operational phases experiment. Recent experiences from Magnet Test Cosmic...

A complete prototype of the CMS tracker read-out and control system has been built using components as close possible to final design. It is based on an amplifier analogue pipeline memory chip (APV), optical links transmitting at 40Ms/s a VME mounted digitisation data handling board (FED-PMC), supplemented by architecture FECs which set monitor entire system. This successfully operated for first time under LHC like beam conditions in 25ns structured provided SPS CERN. The objective was...

In the context of concurrent engineering, this paper presents a quite innovative approach to collaborative optimisation process, which couples multi-objective genetic algorithm with an asynchronous communication tool. To illustrate methodology, three European companies’ collaboration on ship hull is described. Our study demonstrates that when carried out in distributed manner it can provide powerful tool for product design.

This paper investigates the performance of silicon microstrip detectors after heavy irradiation. Full-size prototype sensors (53 /spl times/ 64 mm/sup 2/) designed for CMS Tracker have been irradiated with protons and extensively studied in laboratory using a beam minimum ionising particles operated at low temperature as foreseen Large Hadron Collider. We present results large statistics measurements collected charge, noise, position resolution, hit finding efficiency these detectors.
