We conducted a nested case-control study to determine potential risk factors for developing encephalitis from West Nile virus (WNV) infection. Retrospective medical chart reviews were completed 172 confirmed WNV cases hospitalized in Houston between 2002 and 2004. Of these cases, 113 had encephalitis, including 17 deaths, 47 meningitis, 12 fever cases; 67% male. Homeless patients more likely be compared the general population. A multiple logistic regression model identified age [odds ratio...
Abstract Previous reports have noted depression after West Nile virus (WNV) infection. We further measured this outcome and found that 31% of patients reported new-onset 75% these had Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression scores indicative mild-to-severe depression. Physicians should be aware neuropsychiatric consequences WNV in patients.
The objective of this study was to describe the clinical features cases hospitalized with West Nile virus (WNV) infections and identify parameters that could potentially predict poor outcome (death). Retrospective medical chart reviews were completed for 172 confirmed WNV infection in Houston, Texas, metropolitan area between 2002 2004. Of patients, 113 had encephalitis which resulted 17 deaths, 47 meningitis, 12 uncomplicated fever. Risk factors associated progression from death absence...
Importance Large language models (LLMs) are being implemented in health care. Enhanced accuracy and methods to maintain over time needed maximize LLM benefits. Objective To evaluate whether performance on the US Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) can be improved by including formally represented semantic clinical knowledge. Design, Setting, Participants This comparative effectiveness research study was conducted between June 2024 February 2025 at Department of Biomedical Informatics,...
We developed a doctor-facing chatbot named SCAI. aimed to evaluate response speed and user satisfaction. Ten questions were used test the of SCAI chatbot. The time was long, but overall participants satisfied with
Summary We conducted a study to determine whether juvenile stray dogs could be sentinels for West Nile virus (WNV) surveillance. Seroconversion was detected 6 weeks before the first reported human case. Our findings provide evidence that useful monitoring areas of WNV during transmission seasons.
Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) greatly influence health outcomes. SDOH surveys, such as the Assessing Circumstances & Offering Resources for Needs (ACORN) survey, have been developed to screen in Veterans. The purpose this study is determine terminological representation ACORN aid natural language processing (NLP).
There are numerous definitions of general practice/family medicine (GP/FM) and primary health care (PHC), but the distinction between two concepts is unclear. To conduct a terminological analysis set GP/FM PHC, to clarify commonalities differences these concepts.Sets 20 were collected in 'bags words' (one for one PHC terms). A collections was performed prioritise terms analyse their universe discourse. The extracted with VocabGrabber, configured 'term clouds' using Wordle, further explored...
It is important for SARS-CoV-2 vaccine providers, recipients, and those not yet vaccinated to be well informed about side effects. We sought estimate the risk of post-vaccination venous thromboembolism (VTE) meet this need.We conducted a retrospective cohort study quantify excess VTE associated with vaccination in US veterans age 45 older using data from Department Veterans Affairs (VA) National Surveillance Tool. The received at least one dose 60 days prior 3/06/22 (N = 855,686). control...

One important concept in informatics is data which meets the principles of Findability, Accessibility, Interoperability and Reusability (FAIR). Health care-related queries are a common source of information seeking online, and, in light the June 2022 U.S. Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, concerning reproductive health United States is now particular interest. Increasingly, search applications turn semantic models assist responding user queries, with knowledgebase Wikidata playing prominent role. However, Wikidata’s representation topics around care, as well implications for searches, currently unclear. To further...
The hereby proposed terminology called “Q-Codes” can be defined as an extension of the International Classification Primary Care (ICPC-2). It deals with non-clinical concepts that are relevant in General Practice/Family Medicine (GP/FM). This is a good way to put emphasis on underestimated topics such Teaching, Patient issues or Ethics. aims at indexing GP/FM documents congress abstracts and theses get more comprehensive view about domain. 182 identified Q-Codes have been...
Archival representations strive to convey the original context around historical collections, but perspectives on certain topics and materials may change over time. Such shifting pose problems for providing appropriate subject access without obscuring contexts or misrepresenting resources in their broader cultural settings. This study seeks examine these through an investigation of associated with American sideshows, public opinions which changed drastically from 19th 20th centuries. Using...

Background: While documentation of clinical aspects General Practice/Family Medicine (GP/FM) is assured by the International Classification Primary Care (ICPC), there no taxonomy for professional (context and management) GP/FM.Objectives: To present development, dissemination, applications, resulting face validity Q-Codes specifically designed to describe contextual features GP/FM, proposed as an extension ICPC.Development: The was developed from Lamberts’ seminal idea indexing content...
The International Classification of Primary Care, Second version (ICPC-2) aligned with the 10th Revision Disease (ICD-10) is a standard for primary care epidemiology compendium. ICPC-2 has been also intended to identify clinical topics in family medicine. Contextual field-specific knowledge medicine and such as health structures, management, categories patients, research methods, ethical or environmental features are not standardized reflect, more often, views experts.A qualitative method,...
