5d Superconformal Field Theories (SCFTs) are intrinsically strongly-coupled UV fixed points, whose realization hinges on string theoretic methods: they can be constructed by compactifying M-theory local Calabi-Yau threefold singularities or alternatively from the world-volume of 5-brane-webs in type IIB theory. There is a correspondence between and toric threefolds, however this breaks down when multiple 5-branes allowed to end single 7-brane. In paper, we extend connection provide geometric...

We propose a framework for treating F-theory directly, without resolving or deforming its singularities. This allows us to explore new sectors of gauge theories, including exotic bound states such as T-branes, in global context. use the mathematical known Eisenbud's matrix factorizations hypersurface display usefulness this technique by way examples, affine singularities both conifold and orbifold type, well class full-fledged compact elliptically fibered Calabi-Yau fourfolds.

U(1) gauge symmetries in F-theory are expected to manifest themselves as codimension three singularities of Calabi-Yau fourfolds. However, some these known become massive at strong coupling via the St\"uckelberg mechanism. In this note, we propose a geometric picture for detecting all U(1)'s, and determining which ones massless. We find that show up only admit small, non-K\"ahler, resolutions. Our proposal passes several highly non-trivial tests, including case with non-diagonal mass matrix.

Bound states of 7-branes known as 'T-branes' have properties that defy usual geometric intuition. For instance, the gauge group n coincident branes may not be U(n). More surprisingly, matter show up at unexpected loci, such points. By analyzing T-branes perturbative type IIB string theory in tachyon condensation picture we gain following insights: a large class models, can diagonalized even though worldvolume Higgs cannot. In those cases, see structure these bound more manifestly, thereby...

IIB compactifications enjoy the possibility to break GUT groups via fluxes without giving mass hypercharge gauge field. Although this important advantage has greatly motivated F-theory constructions, no such have been constructed directly in terms of M-theory G 4-form. In note, we give a general prescription for constructing G-fluxes. By using stable version Sen's weak coupling limit, verify their connection with fluxes. We illustrate lift number examples, including compact SU(5) × U(1)...

T-branes are exotic bound states of D-branes, characterized by mutually non-commuting vacuum expectation values for the worldvolume scalars. The M/F-theory geometry lifting D6/D7-brane configurations is blind to T-brane data. In this paper, we make data manifest, probing with an M2-brane. We find that effect a deform membrane superpotential monopole operators, which partially break three-dimensional flavor symmetry, and reduce super-symmetry from $$ \mathcal{N} = 4 2. M2 branes probing T-brane backgrounds in M-theory with ADE surface singularities perceive deformations on their worldvolume superpotentials by monopole operators. The dynamics and moduli spaces of the resulting theories can be studied using a dual description involving conventional superpotential terms (the dimensional reduction of) class S trinion theories. By S-dual N=2 SU(N) SQCD 2N flavors four dimensions, we are able to study T-branes corresponding all minimal nilpotent orbits for whole series.

A subclass these solutions describe completely regular wormhole geometries, whose size is determined by an invariant combination charges. Our results can be applied to four-dimensional effective actions type II strings compactified on Calabi-Yau manifold, and in particular universal hypermultiplet...
