Tree rings have long been used to calibrate the net primary production (NPP) time-series predicted by process-based models, based on an implicit assumption that ring-width indices (RWI) can well reflect temporal NPP change. However, this has seldom tested systematically. In study, 36 plots were set in three forest types from four sites along a latitudinal gradient northeast China. For each plot, we constructed chronologies and stand of past 20 years examine: is RWI good proxy inter-annual...

Abstract Background Global warming has brought many negative impacts on terrestrial ecosystems, which makes the vulnerability of ecosystems one hot issues in current ecological research. Here, we proposed an assessment method based IPCC definition vulnerability. The exposure to future climate was characterized using a moisture index (MI) that integrates effects temperature and precipitation. Vegetation stability, defined as proportion intact natural vegetation remains unchanged under...

Leaf nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) resorption is a fundamental adaptation strategy for plant nutrient conservation. However, the relative roles that environmental factors functional traits play in regulating N P remain largely unclear, little known about underlying mechanism of affecting resorption. Here, we measured leaf 13 leaf, petiole, twig 101 representative broad-leaved tree species our target subtropical transitional forests. We integrated these multiple into economics spectrum...

Process-based models are basic tools for predicting the response of forest carbon to future climate change. The have commonly been tested their predictions spatial variation in productivity, but much less ability predict temporal variation. Here, we explored methods test with tree rings, using BIOME-BGC as an example. We used net primary productivity (NPP) data and rings collected from five major types along altitudinal gradient Mt. Changbai, northeast China, local-parameterized model. first...

Abstract Thermal treatment is an effective method for improving the dimensional stability of wood; however, it typically requires high temperatures. To achieve low-temperature heat treatment, this study employed wood samples impregnated with 10 % tannin acid (TA) and examined their changes in chemical components after at various initial moisture content levels. The results revealed that TA-10 %-HT group exhibited enhanced stability. Specifically, both tangential radial swelling decreased by...

To explore the effects of aquatic nitrogen pollution on cycling bacteria in plain river network, abundances planktonic, particle-attached and benthic (ammonifying...

Increasing drought associated with climate warming (i.e. hotter drought) is seriously threatening tree growth and survival across the world. Nevertheless, how functional traits stand factors interact gradient in affecting radial not well understood. North China has experienced recent decades. We sampled tree-ring from four forest types along an altitude China, examined two aspects of response to change: 1) temporal variability [mean sensitivity (MS) standard deviation (SD)]; 2) correlations...
