We examine violent conflict's spillover effects on food insecurity in Uganda, Ethiopia, and Malawi. Using a contiguity matrix weighted the distance between housing units data from Living Standard Measurement Survey, we find statistically significant effect of conflict security Ethiopia Uganda. Statistically indirect were negative within Malawi positive Ethiopia. Direct conflicts other covariates are also analyzed.

Abstract Background Violent conflicts threaten food security and household welfare in sub-Saharan Africa. While a more robust understanding of the causal relationship between conflict is vital mitigating insecurity bolstering peace prospects, only limited research exists on this topic, especially at level where estimations are empirically challenging given data constraints identification issues. Our analysis utilizes newly developed novel difference-in-differences model by de Chaisemartin...

Abstract This work shows that direct combustion of cotton gin waste (CGW) at gins can profitably generate electricity. Many bioenergy processing centres emphasise very large-scale operations, which require a large and stable bio-stock supply is not always available. Similarly, small biorefinery trash must wrestle with the high volatility yields price variation in Fortunately, smaller scale allows these risks to be somewhat countervailing. Low allow limited available applied highest peak...

Researchers commonly use distance variables to: (i) estimate the direct influence of a landmark on an outcome interest, such as neighborhood park home price; or (ii) control for omitted spatial influences that affect predictions key policy variables. While both uses continue, control, to Central Business District (CBD), is now more common. Using given position CBD added multivariate analysis method capture all remaining, effects dependent variable. We show there latent and inherent...

We examine household food security resilience to conflict and shock in Uganda Malawi using data from the Household Living Standards Measurement Survey. collect on components such as education, asset ownership, dwelling characteristics, water access, sanitation facilities. Principal component analysis is used generate factor weights for constructing Resilience Capacity Index, which measures overall capacity individual components. The then regression models assess its mitigating effects during...
