A Paleoindian campsite has been uncovered in stratified prehistoric deposits Caverna da Pedra Pintada at Monte Alegre the Brazilian Amazon. Fifty-six radiocarbon dates on carbonized plant remains and 13 luminescence lithics sediment indicate a late Pleistocene age contemporary with North American Paleoindians. Paintings, triangular bifacial spear points, other tools cave document culture distinct from cultures. Carbonized tree fruits wood faunal reveal broad-spectrum economy of humid...
P. nigrum L. extracts and the piperine alkaloid have important antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant properties. Therefore, in this study, we evaluated antimicrobial activity cytotoxicity of piperine, a compound isolated from Extracts obtained via maceration, soxhlet, purification steps, addition to were used study. Spectroscopic methods, such as nuclear magnetic resonance, scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetry, differential calorimetry, characterize...
Abstract Holocene environments have been reconstructed by multiproxy studies of an 850-cm-long core from Rio Curuá dating to >8000 14 C yr B.P. The low-energy river lies in the eastern Amazon rain forest Caxiuanã National Forest Reserve, 350 km west Belem northern Brazil. Sedimentological, mineralogical, and geochemical dates demonstrate that deposits correspond two different environments, sediments active before 8000 later a passive system. pollen analytical results indicate four local...
Gastric cancer is one of the most frequent types neoplasms worldwide, usually presenting as aggressive and difficult-to-manage tumors. The search for new structures with anticancer potential encompasses a vast research field in which natural products arise promising alternatives. In this scenario, piperine, an alkaloid Piper species, has received attention due to its biological activity, including attributes. present work proposes three heating-independent, reliable, low-cost, selective...
New pollen, micro-charcoal, sediment and mineral analyses of a radiocarbon-dated core from the Serra Sul dos Carajás (southeast Amazonia) indicate changes between drier wetter climatic conditions during past 25,000 yr, reflected by fire events, expansion savanna vegetation no-analog Amazonian forest communities. A cool dry last glacial maximum (LGM) late were followed wet phase in early Holocene lasting for ca. 1200 when tropical occurred under stable humid conditions. Subsequently, an...

Several types of structures are observed in the Precambrian, Mesozoic and Cenozoic rocks theAmazon region, which represent major features neotectonic framework developed since theMiocene. They controlled sediment deposition Upper Tertiary Quaternary, as well haveinfluenced development present landform patterns drainage systems. Transpressive andtranstensive areas recognized based on their nature geometry, related to two main episodes oftranscurrent displacement Miocene/Pliocene Pleistocene...
Lateritic iron crust (LIC) samples from Padauari (AM) were analysed by XRD, optical microscopy and SEM-EDS. The equilibrium of minerals (IM) was studied using Eh-pH diagram. It shown that the LIC are goethite (alpha-FeOOH), vivianite [Fe3(PO4)2.8H2O] siderite (FeCO3). Carbonate grains a solid solution FeCO3-MnCO3. presents textures structures dissolution IM. stable Eh =-0.3 to 0.0 V pH=5.0-7.5. These results indicate products bioreduction through biogenic IM, new conditions ecosystems Amazon region.
The Solimões Formation is Acre’s most significant outcropping geological unit, consisting of mudstones, siltstones, and fine sandstones. This work aims to characterize these sediments, by studying heavy minerals contributing identifying the probable sources sedimentary rocks. Six stations were selected, with an average nine samples each. Heavy studied optical microscopy scanning electron (SEM). Stations 1, 6, 9 10 presented: kyanite, andalusite, epidote, zircon, staurolite/tourmaline,...
This paper presents data about the suspension sediments of rivers Purus and Juruá, inside State Acre, which are characterized by muddy waters. The suspensates made silt sediments, on average 12 mm in grain size. They formed mainly quartz, followed clay minerals (smectite, illite kaolinite) feldspars (albite microcline). chemical composition is compatible with mineralogy, high concentrations SiO2, Al2O3 Fe2O3, besides K2O, MgO Na2O. These size, mineralogy these indicate that they come from...
