The emergence of farming during the Neolithic transition, including domestication livestock, was a critical point in evolution human kind. goat (Capra hircus) one first domesticated ungulates. In this study, we compared genetic diversity domestic goats to that modern representatives their wild ancestor, bezoar, by analyzing 473 samples collected over whole distribution range latter species. This partly confirms and significantly clarifies scenario already proposed archaeological evidence....

1. Contrary to the generally high level of natal philopatry (i.e. likelihood that individuals breed at their colony) found in first-breeding colonial birds, little is known later life. Most hypotheses advanced explain are valid all ages. However, for young and inexperienced benefits may be counterbalanced by costs intraspecific competition colony making dispersal temporarily advantageous. In turn, experience increase competitive ability make advantageous again. 2. We evaluated this...

Adult Greater Flamingos (Phoenicopterus roseus) are sexually dimorphic, with males being on average larger and heavier than females. However, there is no practical way to sex the chicks by their morphology. Here we describe a method relying quick easy DNA extraction from feathers. A PCR test employing primers amplify introns whose lengths usually differ between CHD-W CHD-Z genes allow discrimination. This thus fast, accurate inexpensive protocol flamingo feathers bulbs sampled in field.

In the Mediterranean basin, Greater Flamingos Phoenicopterus roseus constitute a metapopulation with natal and breeding dispersal among colonies. However, rate of exchange between European North African colonies remains poorly known. this paper, we document wintering flamingos in Algeria provide first post-fledging data for born Algeria. At Algeria, most ringed birds (99.4% 835 birds) originated from north-western (397 individuals France, 369 Spain, 57 Sardinia seven continental Italy), but...

Abstract To increase quality and amount of wood production in Turkish red pine ( Pinus brutia Ten.), genetic control specific gravity (WSG), tracheid length growth traits was investigated Ceyhan1A progeny trial by evaluating 168 families originated from six clonal seed orchards. Wood samples were taken destructive sampling during the rouging this at age seven. Differences among for mean WSG large (ranged 0.35 to 0.62), as indicated high individual (0.42±0.07) family (0.55±0.03)...

Üst ölçekli planlama kapsamında orman ekosistemlerinde karbon tutumunun hesaplanması ve değerlendirilmesi, ormancılık faaliyetlerinin sürdürülmesi izlenmesi açısından önemlidir. Sürdürülebilir odaklı faaliyetleri düşük olduğu alanlarda, doğal ekosistem yapısına zarar vermeden tutumunu artırmakta sera gazlarının azaltımına ilave katkı sağlamaktadır. Bu çalışmada Türkiye’nin Akdeniz Ekolojik Bölgesi’ndeki ormanlar için mevcut tutumu, meşcere hacim değerleri uluslararası kabul görmüş katsayılar...
