A sustainable process for the hydrogenation of levulinic acid (LA) to γ-valerolactone (GVL) is reported. GVL can be easily obtained in high yield, adopting very mild reaction conditions, by an aqueous solution using a commercial ruthenium supported catalyst combination with heterogeneous co-catalyst, such as ion exchange resins Amberlyst A70 or A15, niobium phosphate, oxide. All hydrogenations were carried out at 70–50 °C and low hydrogen pressure (3–0.5 MPa). The most effective co-catalyst...

The hydrothermal conversion of waste biomass to levulinic acid was investigated in the presence homogeneous catalysts. Different cheap raw materials (poplar sawdust, paper mill sludge, tobacco chops, wheat straw, olive tree pruning) were employed as substrates. yields improved by optimization main reaction parameters, such type and amount catalyst, temperature, duration, concentration, electrolyte addition. catalytic performances also adoption microwave irradiation an efficient heating...

A semiquantitative analysis by means of midinfrared FT-IR spectroscopy was tuned for the simultaneous determination cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin in industrial crops such as giant reed ( Arundo donax L.) switchgrass Panicum virgatum L.). Ternary mixtures pure were prepared a direct correlation area/concentration achieved cellulose lignin, whereas indirect correlations found hemicellulose quantification. Good correspondences between values derived from our model those reported...

A correlation between glucose control and 25(OH)D metabolism has been suggested by previous studies. However, this not yet evaluated considering the impact of chronic complications type 2 diabetes, especially presence nephropathy. Thus, aim study was to determine A1C in a well characterized cohort diabetic patients. We cross-sectionally examined association serum 25(OH) D 715 patients attending our clinic during years 2011-2012. The average age 68±12 (range 26-94 years). relation levels...

This paper deals with the characterization of magnetic iron oxide nanoparticles. Pure magnetite (Fe <inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">3</inf> O xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">4</inf> ) and noble metal doped were synthesized following a new sustainable microwave-assisted method. Furthermore, an experimental analysis was carried out to investigate chemical properties these nanopowders. Morphological characteristics pure...

Objective Low levels of serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D [25(OH)D] are commonly found in type 2 diabetes. We examined whether there is an association between circulating 25(OH)D concentrations and the presence microvascular complications people with Research design methods studied 715 outpatients diabetes who regularly attended our clinic. Participants were evaluated for (namely retinopathy and/or nephropathy) by clinical evaluation, fundus examination, urine examination biochemical tests. Serum...

A cascade strategy for the catalytic valorization of aqueous solutions levulinic acid as well γ-valerolactone to 2-methyltetrahydrofuran or monoalcohols, 2-butanol and 2-pentanol, has been studied optimized. Only commercial systems have employed, adopting sustainable reaction conditions. For first time, combined use ruthenium rhenium catalysts supported on carbon, with niobium phosphate co-catalyst, claimed hydrogenation acid, addressing selectivity 2-methyltetrahydrofuran. On other hand,...
