Abstract This paper describes the HISTALP database, consisting of monthly homogenised records temperature, pressure, precipitation, sunshine and cloudiness for ‘Greater Alpine Region’ (GAR, 4–19°E, 43–49°N, 0–3500m asl). The longest temperature air pressure series extend back to 1760, precipitation 1800, 1840s 1880s. A systematic QC procedure has been applied a high number inhomogeneities (more than 2500) outliers 5000) have detected removed. 557 are kept in different data modes: original...
The Carpathians are the longest mountain range in Europe and a geographic barrier between Central Europe, Eastern Balkans. To investigate climate of area, CARPATCLIM project members collected, quality-checked, homogenized, harmonized, interpolated daily data for 16 meteorological variables many derived indicators related to period 1961–2010. principal outcome is Climate Atlas Carpathian Region, hosted on dedicated website (www.carpatclim-eu.org) made high-resolution grids (0.1° × 0.1°) all...
Urban areas are among those most endangered with the potential global climate changes. The studies concerning impact of changes on local cities a high significance for urban inhabitants' health and wellbeing. This paper is final report project (Urban in Central European change) aim to raise public awareness issues five cities: Szeged (Hungary), Brno (Czech Republic), Bratislava (Slovakia), Kraków (Poland) Vienna (Austria). Within project, complex data geomorphological features, land use...
Abstract This work examines the main features of flash flood regime in Central Europe as revealed by an analysis floods that have occurred Slovakia. The is organized into following two parts: first part focuses on estimating rainfall-runoff relationships for 3 major events, which were among most severe events since 1998 and caused a loss lives large amount damage. selected 20th July, 1998, Malá Svinka Dubovický Creek basins; 24th 2001, at Štrbský Creek; 19th June, 2004, Turniansky Creek....
Abstract The article presents a recent update of comprehensive dataset long‐term series precipitation data from instrumental observations in the Greater Alpine Region (GAR), that is, region Europe including mountain range and their nearer surroundings (4°–19° E longitude 43°–49° N latitude). A comparison to different national homogenized datasets is also presented. Results show more breaks have been detected due higher station density. They demonstrate necessity constant exchange with...
Abstract. Heavy rainfall events causing floods and flash are examined in the context of solar wind coupling to magnetosphere–ionosphere–atmosphere system. The superposed epoch (SPE) analyses variables have shown tendency severe weather follow arrivals high-speed streams from coronal holes. Precipitation data sets based on rain gauge satellite sensor measurements used examine relationship between daily precipitation rates over several midlatitude regions. SPE analysis results show an increase...
Abstract The North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) is the most important circulation phenomenon in Northern which impacts climate Europe various ways. Precipitation a basic climatic element affects landscape significantly. Therefore this paper, relationship between NAO and winter precipitation Slovakia analysed. A Spearman’s correlation analysis was used, detected of on above-mentioned seasonal different regions Slovakia. coefficients obtained positive values region Orava Kysuce changed to...
Within a bilateral project of the meteorological services in Germany and Slovakia, time series phenological phases both countries have been analysed compared for period 1951-2000. Phases plants from all seasons which are available selected sample eight representative stations observation networks services. The investigation comprises trend analysis, comparison medians phase onset date its year-to-year variability, their changes between subperiods 1951-1985 1986-2000 correlation with monthly...
Abstract. Temperature increases in cities affects inhabitants’ quality of life, justifying the extent research focusing on identifying, analysing, and assessing relationship between density urban fabric represented by land cover/land use (LC/LU) classes manifestation heat island (UHI) phenomenon. This paper delimits LC/LU for Bratislava (2,117 ha class 12110 dominated 2016) Trnava (598 12120 2016). The greatest median air temperature over 33 °C (at 18:00) was derived with MUKLIMO model...
Climatological measurements for the assessment of snow loads on structures as practiced in Slovakia are discussed light methodologies described relevant backgrounds to Eurocodes. The database yearly load maxima based weekly water equivalent cover 660 rain-gauge stations recorded during last 52 winter seasons is analyzed. Special interest focused influence heavy snowfalls winters 2004/2005 and 2005/2006, particularly extreme cases observed.
Motivation The association between weather conditions and stroke incidence has been a subject of interest for several years, yet the findings from various studies remain inconsistent. Additionally, predictive modelling in this context infrequent. This study explores relationship extremely high ischaemic meteorological factors within Slovak population. Furthermore, it aims to construct forecasting models number strokes. Methods Over five-year period, total 52,036 cases ischemic were...
