The Kato-Katz technique misses a proportion of low-intensity schistosomiasis cases. We set out to estimate the rate false negative results after Kato-Katz.Comparison with more sensitive Percoll and polymerase chain reaction (PCR).Amongst Schistosoma mansoni specimens in hypoendemic area, detected 11% positive cases PCR 23%. After treatment, cure was 97% by Kato-Katz, 90% 71% PCR. Results showed moderate agreement, all were Percoll. However, some amongst considered sure positives. The seems be...
Abstract The study aimed to compare the diagnostic performance of Kato-Katz, formalin ether concentration method (FECM) and FLOTAC using Sheather's sugar solution (FS1), saturated sodium chloride (FS2) zinc sulfate (FS7) for diagnosis intestinal parasites among school children, focusing on Schistosoma mansoni . Ninety fecal samples were examined above mentioned techniques. overall infection rate was 87.7%. Concerning protozoa, (FS1 FS2) FECM detected nearly equal rates (43.3% 44.4%,...
The present study assessed the schistosomicidal and fasciolicidal actions of myrrh-derivative Mirazid® in an area low schistosomiasis transmission.A total 27 patients infected with Schistosoma mansoni 16 Fasciola spp. received maximum recommended dose Mirazid.Pretreatment egg counts 4 Kato-Katz slides were compared similar stool samples collected 1 2 months after treatment.Standard procedures quality control measures followed. The results revealed that Mirazid used as or agent has a cure rate...
Abstract Background Malaria, malnutrition and anaemia are major public health problems in Yemen, with Hodeidah being the most malaria-afflicted governorate. To address lack of relevant studies, this study was conducted to determine prevalence Plasmodium falciparum its relation nutritional status haematological indices among schoolchildren Bajil district governorate, west Yemen. Methods A cross-sectional 400 selected randomly from four schools district. Data about demographic characteristics,...
Abstract The present work aimed at studying the efficacy of mebendazole (MBZ) compared to artemisinin (ART) for treatment trichinellosis various phases infection. Seventy Swiss albino mice were orally infected by 300 Trichinella spiralis ( T. ) larvae. Mice divided into untreated control group and groups treated with 50 mg kg −1 MBZ ART three five consecutive days, respectively, enteral phase [2–4 days post infection (PI)], invasive (10–12 PI) encapsulated (28–30 PI). All sacrificed 35–42...
Dientamoeba fragilis (D. fragilis) diagnosis is an intestinal protozoan parasite globally found in rural and urban areas attracting a growing interest. Its prevalence stool varies from 0.2% to more than 19% depending upon the population studied. This study was based on examination of 100 samples randomly referred cases area Motobus district, Kafr El-Sheikh governorate, Egypt. Our aim investigate presence D. examined individuals using conventional polymerase chain reaction (PCR) compared wet...
Intra-specimen and day-to-day variations of Fasciola egg counts in stools were investigated for 16 cases established fascioliasis. For each case six Kato slides from a single stool sample examined daily 5 consecutive days. The results indicated the presence significant intra-specimen more than one-third series, while inter-specimen variation was almost negligible. sensitivity Kato-Katz test diagnosing infection with three same specimen or on different days ranged 96.0%-99.1%. examination...
to determine the safety and efficacy of 2 consecutive doses triclabendazole (tcbZ) in treatment Schistosoma mansoni infection human cases infected with both S. Fasciola sp., we conducted a field survey involving 6314 individuals from 15 villages.the overall prevalence schistosomiasis alone was 15.8%, fascioliasis 2.2%, combined 0.7%.treatment tcbZ given 49 infection.Eight weeks after treatment, cure rate 96% for 32.7% schistosomiasis. All cured had low intensity infection.Liver function tests...
Background: Fecal calprotectin (FC) and fecal occult blood (FOB) were suggested as potential inflammatory markers for assessing intestinal schistosomiasis morbidity that are conventionally detected through invasive methods. Aim Objectives: The present work aimed to evaluate FC FOB of Schistosoma mansoni infection before after praziquantel treatment. Materials Methods: A total 205 stool samples (117 schoolchildren 88 adults) collected examined by Kato Katz. questionnaire enquiring about...
Summary We explored the relationships between specific IgG antibody levels and circulating E/S antigen to intensity of Fasciola infection in human host. Twenty patients with patent six healthy individuals were enrolled study. Intensity was determined by repeated egg counts stools, while antibodies against adult gigantica somatic FI, FII antigens measured as ELISA O.D. readings. The level IELISA. Positivity well correlated intensity. These findings may disclose future a relation morbidity...
To evaluate the performance of Percoll sedimentation and real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for detection S. mansoni cases previously tested as negative by Kato-Katz technique in two low-endemic areas Alexandria, Egypt, Abis 4 8 villages.Stool samples 824 primary schoolchildren were examined (three slides 41.7 mg each). After obtaining results this survey, stool recollected from a subset 150 students, who gave after Kato-Katz. These microscopically concentration with technique. Part...
Summary An IELISA was developed to evaluate the performance of Fasciola E/S antigens in diagnosis and cure assessment human infection. Twenty patients with acute (prepatent) fascioliasis another 20 patent infection were enrolled study. Patients treated TCZ followed at 1, 3 6 months after therapy. At inspection, sensitivity test diagnose prepatent cases 100% compared 70% for infections. There a gradual decrease antigenaemia over follow‐up period cases. In chronic antigen disappeared from 13...
The performance of loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) for detection Schistosoma mansoni DNA from stool and urine samples in comparison with Kato-Katz real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was studied. After obtaining informed consent, 50 children participated the present study agreed to submit samples. Stool were examined by Kato-Katz. Both PCR LAMP techniques applied on overall prevalence S. 46% as detected employed techniques, 90% cases had light infection intensity. highest...
The detection of IgG avidity in sera is potentially useful the diagnosis acute and chronic infection. We studied 31 patients with fascioliasis, aim evaluating clinical application this test to confirm incubating cases distinguish between cases. Of cases, 13 were had a mean index 57.28 +/- 5.79%. 18 an 68.80 8.92%. difference was highly significant. conclude that reliable means identifying stage fascioliasis suggest cut-off point 59.90%
