Abstract Mortality from collision with vehicles is the most visible impact of road traffic on wildlife. due to roads (hereafter road‐kill) can affect dynamic populations many species and can, therefore, increase risk local decline or extinction. This especially true in Brazil, where plans for network upgrading expansion overlaps biodiversity hotspot areas, which are high importance global conservation. Researchers, conservationists planners face challenge define a national strategy...
This study analyzes a giant anteater's (Myrmecophaga tridactyla) movement patterns and space use in São Paulo, Brazil. It is the first to track anteater with Iridium-GPS. The traveled an average distance of 1326 m day–1 speed 1.04 min–1. Home range by Kernel was 2.46 km2 while core area 0.75 km2, estimates Brownian bridge minimum convex polygon were also provided. used shrub savanna, open water habitats more than expected. Monitoring ended just after 10 days when female GPS found on illegal trail.
Hepatozoon species are the most common intracellular hemoparasite found in reptiles. caimani, whose vectors Culex mosquitoes, has been detected a high prevalence among caimans Brazil by blood smears examinations. The present work aimed to detect and characterize spp. 33 (24 free-ranging 9 captive; 28 males 5 females) (Caiman crocodilus yacare) sampled at Poconé, North Pantanal, state of Mato Grosso, Brazil, using examinations molecular techniques. spp.-gametocytes were 70.8% (17/24) 88.8%...
Morphological and molecular techniques were used to investigate the presence of hemogregarines haemosporidians in biological samples free-living Geoffroy's side-necked turtles (Phrynops geoffroanus) Giant Amazon (Podocnemis expansa) from Brazil. No evolutionary form or observed blood smears 83 P. geoffroanus samples, there no meronts histological sections 31 necropsied samples. All DNA extracted tissues aliquots negative haemosporidian PCR assays (based on mitochondrial cytochrome b gene)...
Abstract: Annually hundreds of crab-eating foxes (Cerdocyon thous) are referred to rehabilitation centers and zoos in Brazil. The ultrasonographic study wildlife species is an important tool for a non-invasive accurate anatomical description provides information veterinary care. aim the present was determine characteristics main abdominal organs as well vascular indexes aorta renal arteries using mode B ultrasonography Doppler ultrasonography, respectively. Ultrasonographic features were...
Abstract Captive parrots show a high incidence of obesity and other metabolic disorders due to the consumption unbalanced diets. Therefore, this study evaluated digestibility effects transitioning blue‐fronted amazons from fat diet (sunflower seeds) processed diets with three degrees starch gelatinization (SG). The same feed formulation was obtain pelletized (PEL) at 27.1% SG; low‐cooked extruded (EXT L ) 81.6% high‐cooked H 98.5% SG. Thirty adult were fed sunflower seeds for 90 days, then...
ABSTRACT: Viral hemorrhagic diseases in cervids occur worldwide and include epizootic disease (EHD), bluetongue (BT), adenoviral (AHD). Since gross lesions all three are identical (hemorrhagic enteropathy, pulmonary edema, systemic petechial suffusion hemorrhages), it is necessary to use accurate techniques for a definitive etiologic diagnosis. Archival material (paraffin blocks) at the Department of Veterinary Pathology FCAV - Unesp was reviewed 42 captive free-living Brazilian deer were...
Toxoplasma gondii and Neospora caninum are Apicomplexan intracellular protozoan parasites that affect numerous animal species, thus leading to severe diseases economic losses, depending on the vertebrate species involved. The role of avian in maintaining transmission these coccidia has been studied for several years as they tend serve a potential source infection mammals humans. present study aimed assess serological exposure Orinoco goose (Neochen jubata) T. N. caninum. Between 2010 2013,...

ABSTRACT: Iron deficiency anemia (IDA) in humans is defined as the decrease of total hemoglobin concentration and non-production adult subtype 2 - HbA2 (α2δ2 chains), which considered a marker IDA severity humans, dosed together with iron serum. This study aimed to determine standard types piglets induced experimentally first 21 days life (delivery weaning). In present study, 40 born from four naïve gilts, were randomly equally assigned among gilts. On third day after delivery, groups...
