OBJECTIVES: To assess adequacy of vitamin C intake in HIV-infected children and adolescents; to evaluate serum levels indicators oxidative stress; compare with the uninfected group; correlate stress associate them according reference values. METHODS: Comparative cross-sectional study. Two groups 27 adolescents each, aged between 3 19 years. Group 1 (G1) comprised individuals vertically infected HIV seen at a regional outpatient clinic. 2 (G2) invited without history infection. The were...
Timing of mobilization after chronic subdural hematoma (cSDH) surgery is highly heterogeneous among neurosurgical centers. Past studies have suggested that early may reduce medical complications without increasing recurrence, but evidence remains scarce. The purpose this study was to compare an protocol with a 48-hour bed rest practice, focus on the occurrence complications. The GET-UP Trial prospective, randomized, unicentric, open-label intention-to-treat primary analysis designed evaluate...
<title>Abstract</title> Background/Objective: While older people are more prone than younger to periods of involuntary fasting, systematic assessment all the three major sources macronutrient mobilization and oxidation in same individual participants during short-term fasting has not been previously reported. Because aging is associated with many metabolic, hormonal, body composition changes, humans may have different kinetics utilization stores ones. This pilot study aimed...
We explore the relationship of recessions and tourism cycles on economic performance tourism-dependent Small Developing States (SDS). Using local projections regressions, we examine how these affect potential output growth its drivers—investment employment—and estimate short-run elasticity to activity. Our findings reveal that long-term influence are less persistent in SDS than larger emerging markets, as tourist-dependent economies experience faster recoveries from recessions. Moreover, use...

In surgical patients, hypoalbuminemia may occur as a component of acute-phase response (APR) syndrome, which we hypothesized could decrease serum sodium levels. To compare the frequency hyponatremia in adult inpatients with or without APR syndrome. All simultaneous plasma and albumin results (n = 168), obtained from adults wards corresponding to 6-month period, were searched hospital mainframe. Other relevant laboratory clinical data also registered. was ascertained by presence major physical...
INTRODUCTION: Metabolic syndrome (MetS), a risk factor for atherosclerosis and coronary heart disease, is related to an inadequate food intake pattern. Its incidence increasing among Brazilian adults, including those living in rural areas. Our aim was not only describe the frequency of MetS adults with or without but also compare their pattern as assessed by healthy eating index (HEI) serum albumin C reactive protein (CRP) levels. METHODS: Men women (n = 246) small village Brazil were...
Evidence on timing for mobilization after chronic subdural hematoma (cSDH) surgery is heterogeneous, and practices differ considerably among neurosurgical centers. The Impact of an Early Out-of-Bed Paradigm in Postoperative Outcomes Chronic Subdural Hematomas: GET-UP Randomized Prospective Trial (GET-UP Trial) a randomized clinical trial comparing postoperative early protocol to bed rest. Previously reported results at discharge 1 month indicated decreased risk medical complications the...
To compare the heart weight and weight/body coefficient of adults with without chronic malnutrition. In an initial case series 210 autopsies performed in adults, we recorded body weights calculated coefficients (HW/BW x 100). The exclusion criteria were as follows: positive serology for Chagas' disease, edema, obesity, diseases, hepatopathies, nephropathies, systemic arterial hypertension. Malnutrition was characterized a mass index <18.5kg/m2. Differences p<0.05 considered...
BACKGROUND: Atrophy of the papillae, mucosa, and dorsum tongue are considered classical signs nutritional deficiencies.
