In Brief Objective To assess long-term quality of life in a population-based sample rectal cancer patients. Summary Background Data Quality patients who suffer reduced bowel and sexual function is very important. Few studies, however, have long term follow-up data or sufficient sizes for reliable comparisons between operation groups. Patients Methods A 4-year prospective study patients' was assessed by using the European Organization Research Treatment Cancer QLQ-30 CR38 questionnaires....

Abstract: There are many conflicting results in the literature comparing quality of life following breast-conserving therapy (BCT) and mastectomy. This study compared long-term between breast cancer patients treated by BCT or mastectomy three age groups. Patients (n = 990) completed a survey, including European Organization for Research Treatment Cancer Quality Life Core Questionnaire (EORTC QLQ-C30), at regular intervals over 5 years. In cross-sectional data, had significantly (p < 0.01)...

In Brief Objective: We analyzed 3 previously identified cut-off values of lymph node ratios (0.17, 0.41, and 0.69) in a large population-based collective patients with colorectal cancer for their prognostic value. Summary Background Data: The ratio (LNR) (relation tumor-infiltrated to total examined nodes) has high impact, but the relevant are not determined. Methods: Patients (N = 27,803) primary diagnosed operated Munich region between 1991 2006 were registered Cancer Registry. Lymph...

Research has indicated that several demographic and clinical factors may affect the quality of life breast cancer patients. Few studies, however, have sufficient sample sizes for multivariate analyses to be tested. Furthermore, important factors, such as arm morbidity, communication comorbid illness, not been included in models. The aim this study was predict simultaneous effect these on long-term life. Metastatic progression is thought to result from genetically advanced "fully-malignant" tumor cells. Within the concept prevailing view holds that such cells disseminate mostly large tumors and are capable of growing into metastases once they arrive at a distant site. Support for this scenario comes numerous mouse models in which transplanted grow within days or weeks. However, assumption fully-malignant disseminating human cancer misleading neither supported by mathematical modeling...

To investigate the risk of second cancer and radiation induced following prostate radiotherapy. We compared men with radiotherapy only those treated radical prostatectomy after prostatectomy. Cumulative incidences cancers were calculated. Cox analyses performed to identify determinants influencing incidence.Nineteen thousand five hundred thirty eight patients analyzed. Age median follow-up differed significantly having highest age (70.3 years) longest (10.2 years). Ten-year cumulative...

The authors report on combination chemotherapy in 22 patients (seven men, 15 women; age 20-67, median 38.5 years) with incompletely resected invasive thymoma. Twelve of have had prior radiotherapy the tumor (four 12 local failure, eight remote metastases). By subsequent five obtained complete remission (CR). One them died by relapsed tumor, another an intercurrent infection. At 5 years after diagnosis survival rate 12/22 was 33% (Kaplan-Meier). Ten received as primary treatment Four 10 CR....

Methods: developed Markov screening in context. The reflects current practice standards screening, diagnostic follow-up treatment regarding its precursors. Data disease progression survival were obtained from literature registries. Accuracy Papanicolaou (Pap) testing was based on meta-analyses. performed internal external validation...

Purpose Core needle biopsies (CNBs) are widely used to determine human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) status in breast cancer. Recent publications reported up 20% false-positive results on CNBs if immunohistochemistry (IHC) is compared with fluorescent situ hybridization (FISH). To clarify, confirmation of IHC positivity by FISH generally required, we analyzed the reliability versus surgical specimens a multi-institutional study. Patients and Methods Five pathologic laboratories...
