A scalable and efficient method for the synthesis of pyrene‐4,5‐dione has been developed. The addition N ‐methylimidazole (NMI, 5 mol‐%) to a known oxidation reaction was shown marginally improve yield dramatically ease workup thus amount product isolable in day by using regular laboratory equipment.
Two structural isomers of (9H-pyreno[4,5-d]imidazol-10-yl)-benzaldehyde, with para and meta substitution patterns, were synthesized by condensation 4,5-pyrenedione terephthalaldehyde isophthalaldehyde, respectively. These new pyrenoimidazole derivatives characterized single-crystal X-ray crystallography, UV-vis absorption spectroscopy, fluorescence cyclic voltammetry to elucidate their structural, solid-state packing, electronic properties. Interactions these compounds fluoride anions in...
Singlet fission is envisaged to enhance the efficiency of single-junction solar cells beyond current theoretical limit. Even though sensitizers that undergo singlet efficiently are known, characteristics like low-energy triplet state or insufficient stability restrict their use in silicon-based cells. Pyrenacenes have potential overcome these limitations, but singlet-fission processes materials outcompeted by excimer formation. In this work, bent pyrenacenes with a reduced propensity stack...
Dithiafulvenyl (DTF) end groups were linked to the 1 and 8 positions of a pyrene core directly or via phenylene bridges afford redox-active derivatives. Upon oxidation, 1,8-bis(DTF)pyrene underwent stepwise electron transfers form radical cation dication species, whereas phenylene-extended bis(DTF)pyrene derivative was cyclized into macrocyclic trimer through sequential DTF oxidative coupling reactions in solution solid state. The structural, electronic, supramolecular properties...
Nanoparticle (NP) embedded conductive polymer films are desirable platforms for electrocatalysis as well biomedical and analytical applications. Increased catalytic performance is accompanied by concomitant decreases in NP size. Herein, highly reproducible electrogeneration of low dispersity Au nanocluster ultra-thin (∼2 nm) at a micro liquid|liquid interface demonstrated. Confinement micropipette tip facilitates heterogeneous electron transfer process across the between two immiscible...
A new π-conjugated copolymer containing tetrathiafulvalene vinylogue and pyrene repeat units was synthesized exhibited reversible redox activity, while the self-aggregation behaviour in solution phase responsive to external stimuli such as solvent pH value.
A series of luminescent, neutral pentacoordinate dithieno[3,2-b:2',3'-d]phosphole compounds was synthesized by [4+1] cycloaddition o-quinones with the corresponding trivalent phospholes. The electronic and geometrical modification π-conjugated scaffold implemented here impacts aggregation behavior species in solution. It proved successful generating improved Lewis acidity phosphorus center that then leveraged for small-molecule activation. Hydride abstraction from an external substrate...
A series of π-conjugated phenyl-pyrenoimidazole (Py-Im) systems were synthesized through a one-pot condensation reaction between 4,5-pyrenedione and various benzaldehyde derivatives. The single crystal structures these Py-Im compounds determined, the results showed that Py-Ims can serve as versatile supramolecular synthons for formation diverse solid-state structures, ranging from linear hydrogen bonded networks to complex helical layered π–π stacking assemblies. crystallographic exhibit...
Abstract A monomer‐through‐pentamer series of oligo(1,8‐pyrenylene)s was synthesized using a two‐step iterative synthetic strategy. The trimer, tetramer, and pentamer are mixtures atropisomers that interconvert slowly at room temperature (as shown by variable‐temperature NMR analysis). They liquids well below temperature, as indicated POM, DSC SWAXS analysis. These oligomers highly fluorescent both in the liquid state dilute solution (λ F,max = 444–457 nm, φ F 0.80) an investigation their...
Isobe et al. recently introduced the phenine concept, whereby a 1,3,5-trisubstituted benzene system (a unit) is used as basic building block instead of an sp2-hybridized carbon atom. Now, they apply it in concise synthesis nitrogen-doped nanotube.
