Abstract The composition and origin of Earth’s early crust remains hotly debated. Here we use partition coefficients to invert the trace element 4.3–3.3 Gyr Jack Hills zircons calculate melts from which they crystallised. Using this approach, average SiO 2 content these was 59 ± 6 wt. % with Th/Nb, Dy/Yb Sr/Y ratios 2.7 1.9, 0.9 0.2 1.6 0.7, respectively. Such features strongly indicate that protolith for not an intra-plate mafic rock, nor a TTG (tondjhemite-tonalite-granodiorite) or...

Nucleosynthetic isotope variations are powerful tools to investigate genetic relationships between meteorite groups and planets. They instrumental assess the early evolution of solar system, including mixing reservoir formation in protoplanetary disk, as well planet formation. To address these questions, we report high-precision nucleosynthetic Ti compositions a wide range bulk meteorites, partially complemented with new Cr data. New data confirm first order dichotomy observed carbonaceous...

Small mass-dependent variations of molybdenum isotope ratios in oceanic and island arc rocks are expected as a result recycling altered crust sediments into the mantle at convergent plate margins over geological timescales. However, determination data precise accurate enough to identify these subtle isotopic differences remains challenging.Large sample sizes -in excess 200mg -need be chemically processed isolate order allow sufficiently high-precision analyses using double-spike MC-ICPMS...

Niobium-92 is an extinct proton-rich nuclide, which decays to 92Zr with a half-life of 37 Ma. This radionuclide potentially offers unique opportunity determine the timescales early Solar System processes and site(s) nucleosynthesis for p-nuclei, once its initial abundance distribution in are well established. Here we present internal Nb-Zr isochrons three basaltic achondrites known U-Pb ages: angrite NWA 4590, eucrite Agoult, ungrouped achondrite Ibitira. Our results show that relative...

Abstract The sediments in Lake Huguang Maar coastal South China were previously thought to originate mainly from wind-blown dust transported North China, such that the lake recorded varying strength of Asian winter monsoon. An alternative explanation was local pyroclastic rocks supplied sediments, but actual contributions different sources remained unclear. Geochemical analyses including 87 Sr/ 86 Sr and 143 Nd/ 144 Nd trace elements support rock as dominant source: <22% total ∼ 17%...

Zinc oxide nanoparticle (ZnO NP)-based sunscreens are generally considered safe because the ZnO NPs do not penetrate through outermost layer of skin, stratum corneum (SC). However, cytotoxicity zinc ions in viable epidermis (VE) after dissolution from NP and penetration into VE is ill-defined. We therefore quantified relative concentrations endogenous exogenous Zn using a rare stable zinc-67 isotope (

Significance Niobium-92 is a short-lived p -process isotope that decays to 92 Zr with half-life of 37 Ma. The initial Nb/ 93 Nb ratio the Solar System crucial for utilizing Nb– chronometer, as it has potential provide information on early evolution and insights into debated nucleosynthesis. Herein, we precisely determine using rare minerals in meteorites. This significantly improved precision makes chronometer powerful tool providing precise ages accretion, differentiation, collision...

The Loei and Truong Son fold belts are well known as being the most geologically important highly mineralized magmatic arc-related terranes in mainland southeast Asia. Numerous studies have examined geology, geochemistry, geochronology but only a few metallogenic detailed deposit characterizations been undertaken. This study of zircon geochemical analyses uses laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS) to provide U-Pb ages fertility felsic intermediate volcanic...

Novel axial aligned fiber-to-fiber variable optical attenuator (VOA) that used a pop-up micromirror to reflect the attenuated light toward out-of-plane was designed and characterized. Unlike axial-type VOA devices suffer from large return loss operation voltage, U-shaped electrothermal actuator array only requires 3-V dc bias achieve 37-dB attenuation in our new design. Insertion loss, wavelength-dependent at of 3 dB were measured be 0.3, -45, 0.28 dB, respectively.
