Empirical studies have identified significant links between religion and spirituality health. The reasons for these associations, however, are unclear. Typically, been measured by global indices (e.g., frequency of church attendance, self-rated religiousness spirituality) that do not specify how or why affect authors highlight recent advances in the delineation concepts measures theoretically functionally connected to They also point areas growth conceptualization measurement. Study 1 showed religion for Jews is about community biological descent but personal beliefs Protestants. Intrinsic extrinsic religiosity were intercorrelated endorsed differently by Jews, Catholics, Protestants a pattern supports intrinsic relates to religion, whereas stresses ritual (Studies 2 3). Important life experiences likely be social focused on God...
In the present article, we review literature on religion/spirituality (R/S) and forgiveness using meta-analysis. R/S was positively related to trait forgivingness (i.e., across relationships situations; r .29), state of a specific offense; .15), self-forgiveness (r .12). Contextual measures more proximal process were strongly than dispositional R/S. Measures one’s relationship with sacred measures. We discuss implications for next steps in study forgiveness.
Early postoperative stroke is a serious adverse event after coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). This study sought to investigate risk factors, prevalence, and prognostic implications of in patients undergoing CABG.We investigated the predictors (n=333, 2%) 16 528 consecutive who underwent CABG between September 1989 June 1999 our institution. Predictors were identified by logistic regression analysis.Among preoperative significant correlates included (1) chronic renal insufficiency...
A theory of relational humility asserts that can promote strengthening social bonds. To complement prior, cross-sectional research on this topic, two longitudinal studies were conducted. In Study 1, college students in romantic relationships (N = 123), all whom had been hurt or offended by their partners within the last months, completed measures and unforgiveness for six consecutive weeks. Relational predicted unforgiving motives (lagged one time-point). 2, we examined 84) small groups did...
Aims Thrombotic complications after percutaneous coronary intervention procedures have decreased in past years mainly due to the use of clopidogrel antiplatelet therapy. However, risk bleeding enhanced and irreversible platelet inhibition patients who will require surgical revascularization instead has not been adequately addressed literature. The purpose this study was evaluate effect pre-operative clopidrogel exposure haemorrhage-related re-exploration rates, peri-operative transfusion...
Advances in coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) surgery and percutaneous intervention (PCI) with drug-eluting stents have dramatically improved results of these procedures. The optimal treatment for patients multivessel disease is uncertain given the lack prospective, randomized data reflecting current practice. This study represents a "real-world" evaluation technology disease.A total 1680 undergoing revascularization were identified. Of these, 1080 treated 2-vessel (196 CABG 884 PCI)...
Does humility predict generous motives and behaviors? Although earlier studies have suggested a positive connection, it has remained unclear whether another trait might better account for the humility/generosity link. Three examined associations between self-report measure of humility, related traits, generosity. In Study 1 (197 adults in community sample), predicted greater generosity on two behavioral measures: Charitable donations mailing back an extra survey. 2 (286 undergraduates),...
This article focused on how perceptions of intellectual humility (IH)—humility regarding one's knowledge or influence over ideas—affect relationships with religious leaders. We developed an informant report measure IH using exploratory (Study 1; N = 213) and confirmatory 2; factor analyses, as well a basic manipulation 3; 139). Then in Study 4 (N 105), we examined the context major betrayal by leader (i.e., aligning several factors theorized to strain practice IH). The results provide...
The Immersion Grating Infrared Spectrometer (IGRINS) is a compact high-resolution near-infrared cross-dispersed spectrograph whose primary disperser silicon immersion grating. IGRINS covers the entire portion of wavelength range between 1.45 and 2.45μm that accessible from ground does so in single exposure with resolving power 40,000. Individual volume phase holographic (VPH) gratings serve as cross-dispersing elements for separate arms covering H K bands. On 2.7m Harlan J. Smith telescope...
Little research has explored the role of attachment in predicting virtues. In present study, we provide an initial investigation testing theory that virtues develop from having secure relationships and ability to bounce back adversity. Specifically, examined ego resilience as predictors humility, gratitude forgiveness. A series hierarchical multiple regression analyses on a community sample 245 participants found both were significant gratitude, forgiveness, even after controlling for...
Plasma cotinine levels were measured in 137 students (ages 14 to 17 years), as an independent validation of self-reported cigarette smoking status. Ninety-five per cent the who reported daily had detectable levels. In contract, only 2 that they never smoke cigarettes plasma cotinine. Results suggest adolescents can report accurately on their status if sufficient assurance confidentiality is stressed.
