We use household survey data from Nepal to investigate relationships between women's empowerment in agriculture and production diversity on maternal child dietary anthropometric outcomes. Production is positively associated with diversity, weight-for-height z-scores. Women's group membership, control over income, reduced workload, overall are better nutrition. Control income height-for-age z-scores (HAZ), a lower gender parity gap improves children's diets HAZ. mitigates the negative effect of low
Abstract Globally, the COVID‐19 pandemic has already led to major increases in unemployment and is expected lead unprecedented poverty food nutrition insecurity, as well poor health outcomes. Families where young children, youth, pregnant lactating women live need be protected against ongoing protracted aftershocks that are very likely follow for years come. To examine the association between women's empowerment in agriculture and nutritional status among children under 2 years of age rural Nepal.Cross-sectional survey 4080 households conducted 2012. Data collected included: child maternal anthropometric measurements; sex; age, education, occupation agriculture; household size, number children, religion, caste agro-ecological zone. This paper explores the drivers of Nepal's maternal and child nutrition success using document review, interviews with mothers, quantitative analysis DHS datasets. Our qualitative analyses both highlight similar policy community level changes but limited improvements in feeding care practices. Improvements four key nutritional change emerged: health services, sanitation, education, wealth. However, relative contributions each factor varied by indicator, services more important for linear...
With the increasing recognition that agricultural growth and development do not necessarily translate into improved nutrition outcomes, policymakers are increasingly grappling with how to design implement policies programs can also achieve nutritional objectives. Agriculture has direct links in it provides a source of food nutrients broad-based income, as well directly influencing prices. Gender roles mediate these linkages, particularly relation increased availability income. Thus, one...
To examine associations between grandmothers' knowledge and infant young child feeding (IYCF) practices to test whether the are independent of or operate via maternal knowledge.
Abstract Suaahara was an innovative, complex, multi‐sectoral, large‐scale, nutrition programme in Nepal to increase exposure nutrition‐related information and services, improve knowledge practices among pregnant women mothers of infants young children, their nutrition. This study evaluated the effectiveness by comparing changes over 10 years between intervention comparison districts. The samples households at baseline 2012 endline 2022 were 2040 2480, respectively, from 120 old wards. impact...
Background: Suaahara, a large-scale integrated program, aimed to improve diets and nutritional status among women children, in part by facilitating enhanced homestead food production (EHFP). Objective: This study examines associations between EHFP maternal child dietary diversity variations season agroecological zone (AEZ): mountains terai. Methods: We used data from household monitoring surveys (n = 2101 mothers; n 994 6-23 months), which included 7-day recall report on participation 5...

Abstract The burden of undernutrition in South Asia is greater than anywhere else. Policies and programmatic efforts increasingly address health non‐health determinants undernutrition. In Nepal, one large‐scale integrated nutrition program, Suaahara, aimed to reduce among women children the 1,000‐day period, while simultaneously addressing inequities. this study, we use household‐level process evaluation data ( N = 480) assess levels exposure program inputs knowledge practices related...
With mobile phone coverage and ownership expanding globally, health (mHealth) interventions are increasingly being used to improve quality of nutrition services. However, evidence on mHealth intervention feasibility factors consider during program design is limited in low- middle-income countries like Nepal.

ABSTRACT

Background:
In countries with a high prevalence of undernutrition, timely, accurate screening at the community level is essential to identify children wasting. The World Health Organization recommends using either weight-for-height z-scores (WHZ) and mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC) or both measures signs edema be used severe acute malnutrition for treatment. We compared WHZ MUAC cutoffs wasting among aged 6–59 months in Nepal, as reference standard....
Abstract In Nepal, more than one‐third of children are stunted. Prior studies have shown that women's empowerment in agriculture is associated with child (<2 years) length‐for‐age z ‐scores (LAZ) Nepal. This study tests whether dietary diversity (DD) and household water, sanitation, hygiene (WASH) facilities practices mediate the associations between LAZ. With a cross‐sectional dataset 4,080 households from 240 rural communities across 16 districts we used ordinary least squares...
Abstract Given the role of malnutrition in childhood morbidity and mortality, prioritisation maternal child nutrition programmes has grown significantly 21st century. Policies aim to improve infant young feeding, but questions persist about most effective combination interventions achieve desired behaviour change. There is increasing interest mobile‐based globally, scant evidence exists guide donors, policymakers programme implementers on their effectiveness. Formative research was conducted...
Abstract Undernutrition and low women's status persist as major development obstacles in South Asia specifically, Nepal. Multi‐sectoral approaches, including nutrition‐sensitive agriculture, are potential avenues for further reductions undernutrition. Although evidence is growing, many questions remain regarding how gender mediates the translation of agricultural production activities into nutritional benefit. In this study, we examined influences pathway from to improved income control...
Abstract Objective: The present study aims to assess associations between parental depression and child nutritional status diets in Nepal. Design: A cross-sectional survey conducted from June September 2017. Setting: This monitoring was sixteen of forty-two Suaahara intervention districts spanning mountains, hills plains Multi-stage cluster sampling used sample communities this survey. Participants: Women men with a 6–59 months age were randomly selected ( n 3158 mothers children; 826...
Malnutrition among women in Nepal persists as a major public health burden. Global literature suggests that domestic violence may have negative impact on women's nutritional status. The contribution of intimate partner (IPV) to increased stress levels, poor self-care including the consumption less food and, turn, malnutrition has been documented. However, there is little empirical evidence IPV and its relationship with status thus, this paper assesses these associations.
Abstract Limited evidence exists on the costs of scaled‐up multisectoral nutrition programmes. Such is crucial to assess intervention value and affordability. Evidence also lacking opportunity implementers participants engaging in community‐level interventions. We help fill this gap by estimating full financial economic United States Agency for International Development‐funded Suaahara II (SII) programme, a programme Nepal (2016–2023). applied standardized mixed methods costing approach...
Abstract Suaahara , an at‐scale multisectoral nutrition programme in Nepal, aimed to advance knowledge and skills of frontline health workers improve the quality services at facility community levels. This study assessed impact interventions on Female Community Health Volunteers (FCHVs). The used a quasi‐experimental design which four intervention districts were compared with pair‐matched comparison districts. One worker three FCHVs from each survey cluster included.
