A fast-growing rhizobial group isolated from leguminous plants in Hainan Province, a tropical region of China, is proposed as new Rhizobium species on the basis 16S rRNA gene sequencing, DNA-DNA hybridization, and phenotypic characterization. This belongs to phylogenetic branch which includes leguminosarum. We propose name hainanense sp. nov. for this species. The strain CCBAU 57015 (166) type strain; it has been deposited culture collection Beijing Agricultural University, People's Republic China.
