Five lead-arsenate apatites (mimetites)-Pb5(AsO4)3X—where X denotes fluorine (F), chlorine (Cl), bromine (Br), iodine (I), and hydroxide (OH)—were synthesized via precipitation from aqueous solutions. The crystal structures were determined through Rietveld refinement of powder synchrotron X-ray data. All the compounds crystallized in hexagonal class symmetry (space group P63/m). indicated that mimetite-Cl, -Br, -I, -OH had an anion deficiency at position X. Substitution halogens a mimetite...
Abstract Rare earth elements (REE) in calcium apatite have been widely described the literature. Based on investigations of minerals and their synthetic analogs, mechanism substitution REE3+ for Ca2+ structural positions are well established. Although presence REE natural pyromorphite has reported, response Pb2+ is not A better understanding REE-rich Pb-apatite may facilitate potential use this mineral industrial processes. Two La-doped analogs [Pb5(PO4)3Cl] two control (with absence La)...
Although vanadinite (Pb5(VO4)3Cl) occurs in abundance various terrestrial geochemical systems of natural and anthropogenic origin is seriously considered as a potential nuclear waste sequestering agent, its actual application severely limited by lack understanding basic thermodynamic parameters. In this regard, the greatest challenge posed incongruent dissolution, which pivotal hurdle for effective modeling. Our paper presents an universal approach computing undergoing dissolution which,...
Lead hydrogen arsenate PbHAsO4 and lead phosphate PbHPO4, which can form a continuous solid solution series, have been extensively studied owing to their ferroelectric properties. has also found occur in weathered As- Pb-rich outcrops historically contaminated soils as schultenite mineral. Although most studies were of substantial interest more than 30 years ago, the contamination Earth's surface with toxic Pb As remains major concern for environmentalists. In this study, six compounds...
Abstract Search for inexpensive and efficient methods of critical raw materials recovery is great importance across the world due to growing demand green technologies. Formation detailed characterization new Pb- Light Rare Earth Elements (LREE)-containing phosphates, compared already described or LREE-containing was in this work. These phases were precipitated at experimental conditions similar these used a newly proposed coprecipitation route REE from aqueous solutions. The formation La,...
<p>Synthetic REE-enriched Pb-apatites are potentially important materials in the industry. The size and morphology of crystals can influence physical properties, therefore affect technological processes. conditions synthesis determine crystals. Lead apatite Pb5(PO4)3Cl (analogue mineral pyromorphite) was chosen for this study because its shows particular...
Apatite supergroup minerals are tolerant to various chemical substitutions. Data on the presence of uranium in natural lead apatite - pyromorphite (Pb5(PO4)3Cl) indicate that content U(VI) reaches up 0.5 wt%. This indicates significant amounts may be accommodated structure, which affect ultimate development Pb-apatite nuclear waste forms. However, U represents concentration source solutions rather than mineral structure. The structural constraints upper limit incorporated into at low...
Supply of technologically important rare earth elements (REEs) is concern in Europe. Important European sources are associated with apatites and phosphate rocks. Due to high production, this a potential resource, but technical cost challenges hinder the commercial recovery REEs. A new extraction approach exploring selective co-precipitation REEs Pb form phosphates offers cheap effective technology which can be included existing flow ore processing.  ...
Research on rare earth elements (REE) is currently of high importance due to these being considered as critical raw materials. Particularly REE phosphates are the subject laboratory experiments since they have various applications resulting from their structural diversity. In crystalline rocks occur monazites and xenotimes (REEPO4, monoclinic tetragonal, respectively). Secondary precipitate out aqueous solution usually in form rhabdophane or churchite (REEPO4·nH2O, trigonal...
