Species identification based on the DNA sequence of a fragment cytochrome c oxidase subunit I gene in mitochondrial genome, barcoding, is widely applied to assist sustainable exploitation fish resources and protection biodiversity. The aim this study was establish reliable barcoding reference database native ray-finned fishes Taiwan. A total 2993 individuals, belonging 1245 species within 637 genera, 184 families 29 orders representing approximately 40% recorded Taiwan, were PCR amplified at...
A review of the freshwater ophichthid eel genus Lamnostoma from Taiwan is provided with three species recognized. mindora has been recorded in previous literature and its presence confirmed. Two specimens polyophthalmum represent first record Taiwan. new species, taiwanense sp. nov., described on basis two collected northeastern It can be distinguished by having 3 preopercular pores, higher number teeth lower jaw, a series white spots hill-shaped papillae along head. key to all known provided.
Two new species similar to Ophichthus megalops Asano, 1987 with dark-tipped anal fins, are described on the basis of one specimen each species. semilunatus sp. nov. from northeastern Taiwan is characterized by having 176 total vertebrae, three rows teeth maxilla, + supraorbital pores, two preopercular a brownish anterior-nostril tube, and blotch anterior margin anus. brevidorsalis New Caledonia smaller eyes 2.7 in head, short head 9.5% length, long tail 59.8% slightly snout 19.4% 43...
An additional description of the Misol snake eel Yirrkala misolensis (Günther, 1872) is reported on basis 9 specimens collected from Dong-gang and Ke-tzu-liao, southwestern Taiwan. The species was previously Indonesia Australia then extends northward to Taiwan Japan, lacking adequate characterization morphology. A detail description, fine condition fresh photographs 4 partial CO1 sequences are provided for first time.
A recently-described butterflyfish, Roa haraguchiae Uejo, Senou et Motomura, 2020, is herewith for the first time reported from northeast Taiwan. In Taiwan, genus has been known represented by a single species, modesta (Temminck Schlegel, 1844). This study presents comparison of R. with its congeners and includes diagnostic characters on basis morphology genetic differences life-barcoding. Our specimens have some that may be attributed to individual variations, which are compared discussed.
