Self monitoring of blood glucose helps achieve glycemic goals. Glucometers must be accurate. Many variables affect levels. Factors are analytical (intrinsic to glucometer and strips) pre related patients. Analytical depend on factors like shelf life, amount enzymatic reactions. Preanalytical include pH blood, hypoxia, hypotension, hematocrit etc. CGMS has the potential revolutionise diabetes care but accuracy needs proven beyond doubt before replacing current devices.
