On the basis of first systematic mapping Ua Pou, long known for its exceptionally abundant phonolites, we estimate that these rocks cover 65% surface island whereas mafic lavas 27% and intermediate ones 8%. The silica-undersaturated suite was erupted in a restricted time span (2·9–2·35 Myr), following emplacement tholeiites derived from young HIMU-type source at c. 4 Ma. Primitive basanites, heterogeneous mantle with dominant EM II + HIMU signature, represent likely parental magmas. series...

Abstract New K-Ar dates of volcanic rocks from five the nine islands Society Archipelago (Moorea, Huahine, Raiatea, Bora and Maupiti), confirm a Pacific plate velocity around 11 cm/a during last 4.3 m.y. These new data allow us to analyse age-distance relationship along chain evaluate possible temporal variations in activity hotspot. A clear increase ages is observed linear away present hotspot location. The time-space between Taiarapu, Tahiti-Nui Moorea can be explained by simple model....

Permian pillow basalts are commonly found in Oman either at the base of Hawasina Nappes or within Arabian Platform successions exposed Saih Hatat tectonic window. There is an ongoing debate on whether these lavas include normal mid‐oceanic ridge (NMORB) witnessing opening Neotethys if they plume‐related magmas that emplaced its thinned continental margin. We sampled from several paleontologically dated middle sites. Four them (Buday'ah, Rustaq, Al Ajal, and Wadi Wasit) located as thrust...

The Dominique drill hole has penetrated the volcanic shield of Eiao island (Marquesas) down to a depth 800 m below surface and 691⋅5 sea-level with percentage recovery close 100%. All lavas encountered were emplaced under subaerial conditions. From bottom top are distinguished: quartz olivine tholeiites (800–686 m), hawaiites, mugearites trachyte (686–415 picritic basalts, alkali basalts (415–0 m). cored pile was between 5⋅56±0⋅07 Ma 5⋅22±0⋅06 Ma. Important chemical changes occurred during...

Abstract During the Carboniferous collision stage, West European Variscan orogen was affected by oblique convergence, wrenching, plate‐scale oroclinal bending, and widespread exhumation of deep crust. One these exhumed units forms Léon dome located on northern flank Ibero‐Armorican Arc in western part Armorican massif. Structural field data from Ouessant Island reveal kinematic changes between 330 300 Ma that northwestern margin dome. This underwent two ductile deformation phases with...

New petrological, geochronological, and geochemical data on basalts, mugearites, peralkaline trachytes, phonolites from the Baringo–Bogoria Basin, central Kenya Rift, are presented. K–Ar dating indicates that volcanic rocks were emplaced between 894 ± 13 92 5 ka. 87 Sr/ 86 Sr ranges 0.70304 to 0.70692, 143 Nd/ 144 Nd 0.51237 0.51295, 206 Pb/ 204 Pb 18.4 19.8, 207 15.46 15.70, 208 38.2 40.5. The dolerite dykes at the western end of Britanny (France), which is located on North Atlantic margin, were emplaced in a NW–SE field faults Trias–Lias time limit, between 210 and 195 Ma. These rocks are quartz tholeiites enriched TiO 2 , with trace element composition close to that Deccan basalts. initial concentrations Ba, K, Rb, though slightly modified by alteration, Nb seem have been affected crustal contamination during magma transfer. comparable, age composition, tholeiitic exposed...

This study is based on a set of coarse-grained igneous rocks collected from two zoned plutons located in the central part Tahiti Nui and Raiatea. The Ahititera pluton (central depression Nui) comprises great diversity rocks, ranging ultrabasic to felsic composition. It shows concentric zonation with nepheline-free its periphery nepheline-bearing part.
