Hierarchical self-assembly offers elegant and energy-efficient bottom-up strategies for the structuring of complex materials. For block copolymers, last decade witnessed great progress in diversifying structural complexity solution-based assemblies into multicompartment micelles. However, a general understanding what governs micelle morphologies polydispersity, how to manipulate their hierarchical superstructures using straightforward concepts readily accessible polymers remains unreached....

We investigated the thermoresponsive behavior of aqueous solutions star-shaped and linear poly(N,N-dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate) (PDMAEMA). The observed cloud points strongly decrease with increasing pH solution. This is explained by a weak charging star polymers decreasing pH. A significant molecular weight for high pH, i.e., almost uncharged state, was found to be virtually independent arm number length. These findings are classical Flory−Huggins theory. increase upon captured...

A self-consistent field analytical theory is developed to analyze the equilibrium structure of weakly charged polyelectrolyte brushes in salt-free solutions. In contrast previous studies based on local electroneutrality approximation valid for sufficiently strongly or densely grafted (“osmotic”) brushes, we consider a general case comprising both limits and systems without any priori assumptions about distribution counterions. The expressions various structural properties free confined are...

The thermodynamics and the driving forces of adsorption beta-lactoglobulin on spherical polyelectrolyte brushes (SPB) are investigated by isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC). SPB consist a polystyrene core onto which long chains poly(styrene sulfonate) grafted. Abstract Block copolymers self-assemble into a variety of nanostructures that are relevant for science and technology. While the assembly diblock is largely understood, predicting solution triblock terpolymers remains challenging due to complex interplay block/block block/solvent interactions. We have developed an analytical self-consistent-field (SCF) theory describing conformations of weakly charged polyelectrolyte chains tethered to the solid−liquid interface and immersed in a solution low molecular weight salt. Depending on density grafting polyelectrolytes salt concentration we distinguish three main asymptotic regimes behavior grafted layer.
