Pharmacologic actions of CI-581, a chemical derivative phencyclidine, were determined in 20 volunteers from prison population. The results indicate that this drug is an effective analgesic and anesthetic agent doses 1.0 to 2.0 mg per kilogram. With intravenous administration the onset action within 1 min effects last for about 5 10 min, depending on dosage level individual variation. No tachyphylaxis was evident repeat doses. Respiratory depression slight transient. Hypertension,...

The photoplethysmogram is a noninvasive circulatory signal related to the pulsatile volume of blood in tissue and displayed by many pulse oximeters bedside monitors, along with computed arterial oxygen saturation. similar appearance an pressure waveform. Because former nearly ubiquitous hospitals whereas latter requires invasive measurement, extraction information from has been popular subject contemporary research. function underlying circulation, but relation complicated optical,...

Nerve growth factor (NGF) was originally discovered as a neurotrophic essential for the survival of sensory and sympathetic neurons during development. However, in adult NGF has been found to play an important role nociceptor sensitization after tissue injury. The authors outline mechanisms by which activation its cognate receptor, tropomyosin-related kinase A regulates host ion channels, receptors, signaling molecules enhance acute chronic pain. also document that peripherally restricted...

Statistical Methods for Assessing Agreement between Two of Clinical Measurement. By J. Martin Bland, Douglas G. Altman. Lancet 1986; 1(8476):307-10. Abstract reprinted with permission Elsevier, copyright 1986. In clinical measurement comparison a new technique an established one is often needed to see whether they agree sufficiently the replace old. Such investigations are analyzed inappropriately, notably by using correlation coefficients. The use misleading. An alternative approach, based...

Human apolipoprotein E is the major expressed in brain and exists as three isoforms, designated E2, E3, E4. Although evidence suggests that plays an important role modifying systemic inflammatory responses, there little data investigating apoE isoform-specific effects vivo. In this study, we compared responses of targeted-replacement mice expressing human APOE3 APOE4 genes after intravenous administration lipopolysaccharide. Animals E4 allele had significantly greater elevations...

Cerebral vasospasm remains a major source of morbidity after aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). We demonstrate that simvastatin reduces serum markers brain injury and attenuates SAH.Patients with angiographically documented SAH were randomized within 48 hours symptom onset to receive either (80 mg daily; n=19) or placebo (n=20) for 14 days. Plasma alanine aminotransferase, aspartate creatine phosphokinase recorded weekly evaluate laboratory evidence hepatitis myositis. Serum daily....

Different anesthetic agents have different effects on cerebrovascular physiology. However, the importance of these differences in neuroanesthetic practice are unclear. Continuous interscalene brachial plexus blockade traditionally requires a hospital stay for local anesthetic infusion, and achieving consistent catheter insertion may be difficult. Incorporating long-acting pain relief from continuous peripheral nerve block, with reliable method of insertion, self-contained infusion system would valuable asset short-stay care. We compared the efficacy single injection to an insulated Tuohy disposable pump. Forty adult patients scheduled open rotator cuff...
