The great potential for medical applications of inorganic nanoparticles in living organisms is severely restricted by the concern that can harmfully interact with biological systems, such as lipid membranes or cell proteins. To enable an uptake cells without harming their membranes, platinum were synthesized within cavities hollow protein nanospheres (apoferritin). In vitro, protein-platinum show good catalytic efficiency and long-term stability. Subsequently particles tested after...

In this work we demonstrate the synthesis of monocrystalline silicon nanowire using silver particles as catalysts at temperatures less than 500 °C by means ultrahigh vacuum chemical vapor deposition. The nanowires were grown epitaxially on substrates and had diameters about 10 nm. We furthermore show that remnants can be wet chemically removed with potassium ferricyanide sodium thiosulfate.

Oxygen migration in perovskites is well known to occur via vacancies along the TiO6 octahedron edges. Ionic conduction depends further on orientation of crystal electric field. To study anisotropy cubic SrTiO3 single crystals, temperature-dependent electroformation measurements ranging from 11 °C 50 have been conducted for representative crystallographic directions within system. Electroformation pure follows an Arrhenius behavior, implying ionic process intrinsic oxygen defects. Activation...
