Thermal effects have been frequently associated with concrete‐bridge damage. The nonlinear temperature distributions that arise in bridges are not easily estimated and often considered a simplified way, which may lead to structural behavior problems. In the present paper, discussion of current design‐code provisions is referred an approach studied Southwest Europe presented. estimation considers numerical technique for resolution Fourier heat‐transfer equation its boundary conditions. In this paper, the interaction fluid–rigid body is analysed by a finite element procedure that incorporates arbitrary Lagrangian–Eulerian (ALE) method into well-known two-step projection scheme. The flow assumed to be two-dimensional, incompressible and viscous, with no turbulence models being included. past circular cylinder at ℛℯ=200 first analysed, for fixed oscillating conditions. dependence of lock-in upon shift between mechanical Strouhal frequencies, given amplitude forced vibration,...

This article analyses the cultural practices developed within a particular street in Mozambique, Rua Araújo, once symbol of colonial nightlife, transgression, pleasures and excesses, but renamed do Bagamoyo after independence 1975, signifying shift towards FRELIMO's education values. By focusing on "transgressive" expressive specific street, as privileged locus to re-evaluate various aspects Mozambique's history, this differs from most studies focused music politics Mozambique. Using...

The importance of the cable-stayed Vasco da Gama Bridge, located over main navigational channel Tagus River, is such that its behavior under a ship fire accident should be assessed. Based on volume hydrocarbon products transported by typical oil tankers, models design situations were developed. characteristics those fires, along with radiation, convection, and conduction thermal transfers, considered in numerical analysis bridge deck to estimate evolution temperatures cross section during...

The application of active control systems to reduce wind vibrations in bridges is a new area research. This paper presents the results obtained from set wind-tunnel tests on bridge model equipped with movable flaps. Based monitored position and motion deck, flaps are regulated by algorithm so that forces exerted them counteract deck oscillations.

This paper presents two numerical methods for the evaluation of temperature distributions in bridges, based on a finite element and difference formulation. Comparisons analytical results with experimental data are presented. Based parametric study, design differences concrete T-beam bridges located Iberian Peninsula proposed.

This paper is focused on the torsional effects that are induced bridge piers by unbalanced wind buffeting deck during double cantilever erection stages. The case of decks with variable cross section considered in particular as this characteristic typical most frame bridges built method. procedure outlined basically an application method Dyrbye and Hansen (1996) have illustrated for constant section. format was chosen because it suitable design purposes may easily be implemented structural...

This paper presents numerical studies to the aerodynamic behaviour of Vasco da Gama Bridge. The configuration initially proposed for deck was prone wind instability problems. To overcome this situation, an innovative Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis performed in conjugation with tunnel tests. structural effects gusts on bridge were also studied. These evaluated by frequency domain and another time domain. In latter, a nonlinear stays evaluate amplitudes oscillation induced...
