Here, we highlight the potential translational benefits of delivering FLASH radiotherapy using ultra-high dose rates (>100 Gy⋅s-1). Compared with conventional dose-rate (CONV; 0.07-0.1 Gy⋅s-1) modalities, showed that did not cause radiation-induced deficits in learning and memory mice. Moreover, 6 months after exposure, CONV caused permanent alterations neurocognitive end points, whereas induce behaviors characteristic anxiety depression impair extinction memory. Mechanistic investigations...

FLASH radiotherapy (FLASH-RT) enables the delivery of ultra-high dose rate (UHDR) radiation to a tumor, increasing mean from 0.1 Gy· s−1of conventional (CONV-RT) 100 s−1and above. Animal models have demonstrated that FLASH-RT preserves healthy tissues while yielding similar tumor growth delay as irradiation. Despite promise FLASH-RT, physico-chemical and biological mechanisms underlying effect are still under investigation. Two mutually non-exclusive hypothesis been proposed could explain...

Migration of radionuclides in soils and their transfer to edible plants are usually estimated using volume-averaged bulk concentrations. However, might not be homogeneously distributed due heterogeneous water flow solute transport. One important cause transport is preferential flow. The aim this study was investigate the spatial distribution soil relation paths assess possible consequences for from plants. We identified a forest by staining them with blue dye, we compared radionuclide...

The ligand 2,6-bis(1′-ethyl-5′-methylbenzimidazol-2′-yl)pyridine (L5) reacts with lanthanide perchlorate in acetonitrile to give the mononuclear triple-helical complexes [Ln(L5)3]3+(Ln = Eu, Gd or Tb). crystal structure of [Eu(L5)3][ClO4]3·4MeCN has been determined, which shows three unco-ordinated anions and an [Eu(L5)3]3+ cation where tridentate ligands are wrapped around a pseudo-C3 axis. co-ordination sphere EuIII may be best described as slightly distorted trigonal-tricapped prism six...

Lipid peroxidation, a self-propagating chain reaction that oxydates lipid molecules, contributes to harmful effects of ionizing radiation. A decrease in peroxidation at higher dose rates could play role the FLASH sparing effect. We explored how induced by (> 100 Gy/s) and conventional (CONV, < 0.2 radiation depends on concentration content polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA). Additionally, we investigated correlation between main beam parameters characterizing pulsed electron beams, namely...

Abstract. A detailed geochemical analysis was performed on the upper part of Maiolica Formation in Breggia (southern Switzerland) and Capriolo sections (northern Italy). The analysed sediments consist well-bedded, partly siliceous, pelagic carbonate, which lodges numerous thin, dark organic-rich layers. Stable-isotope, phosphorus, organic-carbon a suite redox-sensitive trace-element contents (RSTE: Mo, U, Co, V As) were measured. RSTE pattern Corg:Ptot ratios indicate that most layers...
