Abstract Pollinators play a crucial role in ecosystems globally, ensuring the seed production of most flowering plants. They are threatened by global changes and knowledge their distribution at national continental levels is needed to implement efficient conservation actions, but this still fragmented and/or difficult access. As step forward, we provide an updated list around 3000 European bee hoverfly species, reflecting current distributional status level (in form present, absent,...
A review of all known descriptions immature stages the species genera Scaeva Fabricius, 1805, Ischiodon Sack, 1913 and Simosyrphus Bigot, 1882 is presented using SEM illustrations. The third instar larval and/or pupal morphology dignota (Rondani, 1857), mecogramma (Bigot, 1860) grandicornis (Macquart, 1842) are newly described. All studied in this paper very similar for characters their stages, including chaetotaxy.Molecular mitochondrial cox1 gene (1128bp) were used inferring relationships...
Phylogenetic relationships among the genera and subgenera of Scaeva-Eupeodes clade (Diptera: Syrphidae: Syrphinae) were analyzed based on molecular characters. Sequence data from three gene regions using maximum likelihood Bayesian inference: mitochondrial protein-coding cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) nuclear 28S 18S ribosomal RNA genes. The genus Paragus (single representative tribe Paragini) was resolved as sister group monophyletic lineage. Inside this clade, a Neotropical radiation...
The name Syrphus and Epistrophe were widely used for most of the species present subfamily Syrphinae during first half twentieth century. In years 1967- 1969 there appeared three independent proposals where these polyphyletic genera split into putative monophyletic subgenera. schemes not identical, some in Epistrophella, Meligramma, Fagisyrphus, Megasyrphus, Eriozona, Leucozona, Xanthogramma, Lapposyrphus Simosyrphus have subsequently been arranged various ways by different authors....
Abstract Records of 19 species the dipteran families Bombyliidae (1 species), Mythicomyiidae Therevidae (2 Empididae (3 Hybotidae Dolichopodidae (8 species) and Syrphidae from glacial sand deposits in Czech Silesia (NE Republic) are presented their association with sandy habitats discussed. All them recorded for first time, 13 new additions to fauna Moravia which 9 also whole Republic. Dialineura anilis (Linnaeus, 1761) (Therevidae) Schistostoma truncatum (Loew, 1864) (Dolichopodidae)...
We describe a case of winter mass mortality Eurasian Siskins Carduelis spinus caused by large road salt grains that birds apparently had mistaken for potential gizzard stones (gastroliths). Clinical evidence revealed acute intoxication as the cause death. recommend using only small-sized (<2 mm) de-icing roads in order to save wintering birdlife from potentially hazardous substance.
