Abstract Background Recent studies have reported the preventive effects of probiotics on obesity. Among commensal bacteria, bifidobacteria is one most numerous in mammalian gut and are a type lactic acid bacteria. The aim this study was to assess antiobesity lipid-lowering Bifidobacterium spp. isolated from healthy Korean high fat diet-induced obese rats. Methods Thirty-six male Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into three groups as follows: (1) SD group, fed standard diet; (2) HFD (3)...
Although extended-spectrum β-lactamase-producing Escherichia coli (ESBL-EC) has emerged as a significant community-acquired pathogen, there is little epidemiological information regarding community-onset bacteremia due to ESBL-EC. A retrospective observational study from 2006 through 2011 was performed evaluate the epidemiology of caused by In six-year period, proportion ESBL-EC responsible for causing had increased significantly, 3.6% in 14.3%, 2011. Of 97 clinically evaluable cases with...
Despite the remarkable emergence of extended-spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL)-producing Escherichia coli sequence type 131 (ST131), clinical features and outcomes infections caused by ST131 remain poorly described. From 2011 to 2012, we collected ESBL-producing E. isolates from patients with bloodstream in 13 hospitals Korea compared characteristics between non-ST131 clones. Of 110 isolates, most common ST was (30.9%). Multivariate analysis showed that recent operation only variable associated...
We evaluated the in vitro activity of various antimicrobials alone and combination against 291 extended-spectrum-β-lactamase-producing Escherichia coli (ESBL-EC) isolates causing bacteremia South Korean hospitals. Ceftazidime, cefepime, piperacillin-tazobactam with amikacin showed greater than found ciprofloxacin. In settings a high prevalence ESBL-producing pathogens, aminoglycoside antimicrobial therapy, especially amikacin, may be considered for empirical therapy suspected Gram-negative...
During recent decades, the rates of multidrug resistance, including resistance to carbapenems, have increased dramatically among Acinetobacter species. Tigecycline has activity against multidrug-resistant spp, carbapenem-resistant isolates. However, reports tigecycline-resistant spp are emerging from different parts world. The purpose this study was evaluate potential risk factors associated with tigecycline non-susceptible bacteremia. The medical records 152 patients bacteremia attending...
We investigated the antimicrobial susceptibility, genotypic distributions of extended-spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL) and AmpC genes, molecular epidemiology AmpC-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae (AmpC-KP) isolates causing bacteremia. Among 260 K. clinical included in this study, plasmid-mediated β-lactamases were found 20.7% (54/260), which DHA-1 (96.3%, 52/54), CMY-2 (3.7%, 2/54), CMY-10 (1.9%, 1/54). One isolate also produced along with CMY-2. Of 54 AmpC-KP isolates, 31 (57.4%) showed ESBL...
In the present study Lactobacillus plantarum CBT1209, Pediococcus pentosaceus CBT SL4, and Bifidobacterium longum SPM1205 showed curd formation in soy milk for 8 hours of incubation time a single-culture experiment. Among these strains, B. as new isolated strain, inhibited activity fecal harmful enzymes rat. Therefore, we investigated possibility using mixed culture containing SPM1205for obtaining curd-type soy-based yogurt with respect to formation, proximate composition sensory attributes....
Probiotics do not naturally have a high stability and shelf life because they are living microorganisms. In an effort to maximise their survival, we developed new dual coating LAB, trademarked as Duolac. This study aims compare the probiotic effects of coated LAB uncoated through in vivo vitro testing. Groups SD rats were orally administered saline (as control group), Duolac or meal 1x109 CFU per day for four weeks. We collected fecal samples investigate inhibition harmful enzyme activity....
While carbapenems are the drug of choice to treat extended-spectrum-β-lactamase (ESBL)-producing strains, some alternative carbapenem-sparing regimens suggested for antibiotic stewardship. We experienced a case ciprofloxacin treatment failure acute pyelonephritis caused by an apparently susceptible Escherichia coli. A 71-year-old woman presented emergency department with fever 7 days and bilateral flank pain 2 days. The laboratory results abdominopelvic computed tomography finding were...
We investigated the molecular epidemiology and microbiological characteristics of 51 Escherichia coli isolates causing hospital-acquired pneumonia (HAP) in eight Asian areas. Sequence type 131 (ST131) was most prevalent among E. HAP, especially South Korea, Thailand, Philippines. The current study showed that CTX-M-15-producing ST131 has emerged disseminated patients with HAP Asia. Our data suggest this pandemic clone poses an important public health threat even nosocomial infections.
ABSTRACTDiarrhea-producing enteropathogenic bacteria infections in calves continue to be a major world-wide problem. In particular, neonatal calf diarrhea remains an important cause of morbidity and mortality young calves. Traditionally, formulated antibiotics have been used as preventive treatment. However, consumer concern about antibiotic resistance has increased interest alternative supplements grown. The aim this study was test the efficacy Lactic acid (LAB) supplement, which includes...
The purpose of this study was to assess the microbiological quality unchlorinated drinking water in Korea, 2010. One hundred and eighty samples were collected from various sites Seoul Gyeonggi province. To investigate bacterial presence, pour plate method used with cultures grown on selective media for total bacteria, coliforms, Staphylococcus spp., respectively. In 180 bacteria investigation, 72 33 province an unacceptable (>10(2) CFU/mL). Of all tested, coliforms detected 28 (15.6%) spp. 12...
