The Asian shrub Lonicera maackii (Amur honeysuckle) is now common in many secondary forests southwestern Ohio and adjacent states. We found lower species richness abundance plots (0.5 m2) placed below crowns of L. than away: all (53% 63% cover), tree seedlings with canopy potential (−41% −68% density) seed bud bank (−34% −33% density). Moreover, most individual taxa had maackii: 86% herbs, 100% trees 56% taxa. In addition, density decreased longer residence time maackii.
Abstract Background Lacrosse has seen an uptake in participation the last two decades. Moreover, with small-sided variants (box lacrosse [BL] and sixes [SL]), latter being considered by international Olympic committee. However, for athletes to perform at highest level across variations of (field [FL], BL SL), sports coaches, practitioners national governing bodies need understand demands, physical performance characteristics injury incidence. Objective The objective this scoping review is...
The testes of Hemidactylus turcicus are composed seminiferous tubules lined with continuous germinal epithelia in which multiple germ cell morphologies can be found during the active months sperm development. Spermatogenesis is quiescent September, only spermatogonia A and B present minimal mitotic activity observed. Recrudescence begins October early stages spermatogenesis progress through November. onset spermiation observed December continues August heaviest release occurring June July....
Abstract We have examined whether mutation rates at minisatellite DNA loci in dandelions ( Taraxacum officinale Weber, sensu lato; Asteraceae) increase with increasing exposure to metal pollution. From 16 sites (Colorado Pennsylvania, USA) covering a range of airborne particulate‐matter exposures, soil concentrations, and leaf‐tissue we grew an average 7.9 offspring from each 10 parent plants, analyzed the parent‐offspring transmission 82,715 markers 1,258 for mutation. The mean number per...
We investigated the hypothesis that dandelion clones (Taraxacum officinale Weber, sensu lato; Asteraceae) differ in their floral stage timing characteristics under a constant set of environmental conditions. To test this hypothesis, plants representing nine different (identified by DNA fingerprinting) were grown groups five (N = 45) growth chamber for period 8 mo, with settings similar to conditions at peak flowering time population sites. Five phenology parameters monitored daily total 301...
This study examined seed ultrastructure in relation to germination of North American dandelion seeds. Based on laboratory rearing observations, it was thought that the design pappus acts as a conduit facilitating water entry into seed. It hypothesized seeds without would yield fewer seedlings and require more time germinate than with an intact pappus. Seed investigated using scanning electron microscopy, while relative humidity fungal association were explored factors may confer advantage...
SUMMARY This study shows that honeydew prompts arrestment and reduced activity, but not attraction, by the mite Balaustium sp. nr. putmani. When presented with short-range, two-choice bioassays, mites ceased their characteristic rapid crawling activity when they encountered honeydew-treated surfaces, resulting in them clustering around honeydew. Approximately 80% of were retained honeydew, responses being independent both life-history stage source (coccid scale insect or aphid). No obvious...
We investigated the hypotheses that (a) differences in metal uptake exist between dandelion (Taraxacum officinale Weber; Asteraceae) clones sampled from unpolluted and polluted sites when grown media, (b) into roots versus leaves for media. These were tested by performing a series of reciprocal, greenhouse-planting experiments which distinct (12 clones, identified DNA fingerprinting, each site type) two (relatively high copper [Cu], lead [Pb], zinc [Zn] soil concentrations) pairwise both...
Ultrastructure and dimensions of whole seed, embryo, testa cells 10 orchid species native to North America Hawaii are reported. Seeds seven terrestrials (Cleistes bifaria, Isotria medeoloides, Liparis elata, L. hawaiensis, Platanthera holochila, P. integrilabia, leucophaea), two epiphytes (Encyclia tampensis, Epidendrum nocturnum), one semi-aquatic (Habenaria repens) were studied by light scanning electron microscopy. In contrast the orchid, seeds terrestrial larger in size evidenced a small...
We report a two-fold suppression in activation energy for water loss adult Uca minax males compared to co-occurring species, U. pugilator and pugnax, that overlap salt marsh/estuary habitats, implying water-tight cuticular modification is unique minax. This further reflected by drop Arrhenius frequency (steric) factor A as an integrated measure of effectiveness. also distinguished enlarged body size (approximately 5× large the other two species) enhanced capacity retention pronounced 4-5...
<div>Abstract<p>MLK4 is a member of the mixed-lineage family kinases that regulate JNK, p38, and ERK kinase signaling pathways. MLK4 mutations have been identified in various human cancers, including frequently colorectal cancer, where their function pathobiological importance uncertain. In this study, we assessed functional consequences colon tumorigenesis. Biochemical data indicated majority are loss-of-function (LOF) can exert dominant-negative effects. seeking to understand...

OBJECTIVE: To describe the injury epidemiology of a men’s national Sixes lacrosse team across training and competition. DESIGN: Prospective observation study. METHODS: This study prospectively observed injuries that occurred within competition cycle British Men’s National Lacrosse team. Data were collected by physiotherapist, incidence was calculated, data categorized into type, body part, mechanism. RESULTS: Forty-three during Injury varied between practice tournaments. Twelve percent all...
