The fabrication of photonic crystal composites composed encapsulated electrostatically stabilized colloidal arrays with tailorable thermomechanical properties is introduced. Composites sub‐ambient T g exhibited reversible mechanochromic characteristics and a 172 nm stop‐band tuning range, could be modulated up to frequencies 200 Hz. Figure shows reflective the at different strain levels (see also inside front cover).

Ultra low dielectric constant (k = 1.53) materials with self-cleansing properties were synthesized via incorporation of fluorodecyl-polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (FD-POSS) into recently perfluorocyclopentenyl (PFCP) aryl ether polymers. Incorporation fluorine rich, high free volume, and surface energy POSS a semifluorinated PFCP polymer matrix at various weight percentages resulted in dramatic drop constant, as well significant increase hydrophobicity oleophobicity the system. Multilayer fullerenes (carbon nano-onions, CNOs) represent a largely unexplored carbon allotrope due to their inherent insolubility. Expectations are that the properties of these nano-onions will be unique and potentially useful, as has been case with nanotubes (CNTs).
