ABSTRACT A Klebsiella pneumoniae strain of sequence type 313 (ST313) recovered from hospital sewage was found carrying the plasmid-borne colistin resistance gene mcr-1 , which bracketed by two copies insertion IS Apl1 on a 57-kb self-transmissible IncP-type plasmid new IncP-1 clade. The carriage broad-host-range highlights that has potential to spread beyond Enterobacteriaceae family.

The plasmid-borne colistin-resistant gene mcr-1 has rapidly become a worldwide public health concern. This study aims to determine the host bacterial strains, plasmids and genetic contexts of in hospital sewage. A 1-ml sewage sample was cultured. Colistin-resistant colonies were selected on agar plates subjected whole genome sequencing subsequent analysis. transfer between strains tested using conjugation. New variants cloned test impact variations function MCR-1. Plasmids carrying retrieved...

The newly identified plasmid-borne colistin resistance gene mcr-1 was found in a Kluyvera ascorbata isolate from hospital sewage China. carried by 57-kb self-transmissible IncI2 plasmid. Unlike previous report, not associated with ISApl1 and inserted into encoding putative membrane protein an unknown mechanism. This study highlights that has spread to multiple bacterial species.

The emergence of plasmid-mediated colistin resistance threatens the efficacy as a last-resort antibiotic used to treat infection caused by Gram-negative bacteria (GNB). Given shortage new antibiotics, discovery adjuvants existing antibiotics is promising strategy combat infections multidrug-resistant (MDR) GNB. This study was designed investigate potential synergistic antibacterial activity bavachin, bioactive compound extracted from Psoralea Fructus, combined with against MDR Herein, in...

Gabapentin (GBP), a γ-aminobutyric acid analogue used for neuropathic pain and epilepsy, can reduce cat stress improve veterinary exam compliance. A sensitive LC-MS/MS assay was established rigorously validated quantifying GBP in feline plasma. The method employed acetonitrile-mediated protein precipitation to efficiently extract its internal standard, pregabalin (PGB). Chromatographic separation achieved within 7 min using C18 column (2.1 × 50 mm, 1.7 μm) with gradient mobile phase...

Streptococcus suis is an emerging zoonotic pathogen that can cause fatal diseases such as meningitis and sepsis in pigs human beings. The overuse of antibiotics leading to increased level resistance S. suis, novel antimicrobial agents or anti-virulence for the treatment infections caused by are urgently needed. In present study, we investigated antibacterial activity, mode action effects floxuridine against suis. Floxuridine showed excessive activity both vivo vitro; 4 × MIC could kill...

Isopropoxy benzene guanidine (IBG) is a novel substituted analogue with antibacterial activity against multidrug-resistant bacteria. However, the bioavailability of IBG not optimal due to its finite aqueous solubility, thus hampering potential therapeutic exploitation. In this study, we prepared IBG/hydroxypropyl-β-CD (IBG/HP-β-CD) complex, and characterized it by differential scanning calorimetry, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, powder X-ray diffraction, electron microscopy....

Streptococcus suis, an encapsulated zoonotic pathogen, has been reported to cause a variety of infectious diseases, such as meningitis and streptococcal-toxic-shock-like syndrome. Increasing antimicrobial resistance triggered the need for new treatments. In present study, we found that isopropoxy benzene guanidine (IBG) significantly attenuated effects caused by S. suis infection, in vivo vitro, killing reducing pathogenicity. Further studies showed IBG disrupted integrity cell membranes...
