Neurovascular unit (NVU) is a basic in the brain, including neurons, glial cells, blood vessels and extracellular matrix. This concept implies importance of three-dimensional (3D) culture model these cell types for investigating brain functions. However, little known about construction an vitro 3D NVU model. In present study, we aimed at constructing neurovascular tissues by combining neurogenesis angiogenesis models using microfluidic platform, which critical step toward vitro. Three gel...

In response to the coronavirus diseases 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, Japanese government declared a state of emergency on April 7, 2020. Six days earlier, Japan Surgical Society had recommended postponing elective surgical procedures. Along with growing public fear COVID-19, hospital visits in decreased. Using claims data from Quality Indicator/Improvement Project (QIP) database, this study aimed clarify impact first wave considered be March May 2020, case volume and claimed charges acute care...

Oxidation of veratryl alcohol by lignin peroxidase (LiP) was potently inhibited oxalic acid. The inhibition analysis with Lineweaver-Burk plots clearly showed that the type is non-competitive. enzymatic oxidation in presence 14C-oxalic acid yielded radioactive carbon dioxide. results indicate apparent LiP caused reduction cation radical intermediate back to substrate level oxalate, which concomitantly oxidized

A biologically active lipid, sphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P) is highly abundant in blood, and plays an important role regulating the growth, survival, migration of many cells. Binding endogenous ligand S1P results activation various signaling pathways via G protein-coupled receptors, some which generates Ca2+ mobilization. In astrocytes, reported to evoke signaling, proliferation, migration; however, precise mechanisms underlying such responses astrocytes remain be elucidated. Transient...

Abstract Aims The Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID‐19) pandemic has had unprecedented effects on health care utilization for acute cardiovascular diseases. Although hospitalizations coronary syndrome decreased during the COVID‐19 pandemic, there is a paucity of data trends and management heart failure (HF) cases. Furthermore, concerns have been raised that angiotensin‐converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEIs) angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs) may increase susceptibility to COVID‐19. This study...

Enzymatic oxidation of veratryl alcohol yielded a new ring cleavage product (δ‐lactone) in addition to the two known γ‐lactone products. The experiment with 18 O‐enriched water and dioxygen clearly showed that one oxygen atom each from is specifically incorporated into at original C 3 or 4 position 3,4‐dimethoxybenzyl alcohol. A type reaction mechanism proposed for this compound rationally explained good accord one‐electron transfer mechanism.

A non‐phenolic β‐ O ‐4 lignin substructure model compound, 1,3‐dihydroxy‐2‐(2‐methoxyphenoxy)‐1‐(4‐ethoxy‐3‐methoxyphenyl)propane, was degraded by streptomyces cyaneus in liquid shaken cultures. 4‐Ethoxy‐3‐methoxybenzoic acid could be identified TLC and GC/MS as the main product, indicating cleavage of CαCβ bond aryl glycerol‐β‐aryl ether. In addition, 4‐ethoxy‐3‐methoxybenzaldehyde guaiacol were culture extracts further degradation products.
