ABSTRACT This review discussed the last 10 years progress in use of lignocellulosic materials chemically modified as low‐cost biosorbents. Thus, chemical modifications, such pretreatment, oxidation, well grafting carboxyl groups, amines, amides, etc., on fibers, that aim to increase number adsorption sites and maximize toxic metal ion capacity have been addressed. The literature presents results indicated performances biosorbents equal or even higher than conventional methods adsorbents....

Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) functionalized silica spheres were used to remove metal ions from aqueous solutions. The adsorption kinetics of Cu2+, Zn2+, and Cd2+ (60 mg·L–1, pH 5.5) fitted the pseudosecond order model. Adsorption equilibria reached within 20 min, indicating that chemisorption may be limiting step in process. isotherms analyzed with nonlinear models by considering ERRSQ error function determination coefficient R2. data monoion solutions (10 mg·L–1 300 mg·L–1) tested...

ABSTRACT This work investigates the removal of Cd 2+ , Cu Ni and Pb ions from aqueous solutions using tururi fibers as an adsorbent under both batchwise fixed‐bed conditions. It was found that modification with sodium hydroxide increased adsorption efficiencies all metal studied. The fractional factorial design showed pH, mass, agitation rate, initial concentration influenced each differently. kinetics multi‐element equilibria were reached after 15 min following pseudo‐second‐order kinetics....

AbstractThis work investigates copper, nickel and zinc ion biosorption in single- multi-component systems a fixed-bed column using green coconut shells (CS). Approximately 85% of biosorbents are particle size ranging from 0.25 to 2 mm. Operational parameters selected include flow rate 200 mL min−1 bed height 100 cm, which were for shorter execution time good adsorption capacity. Empty-bed contact Thomas models applied, showing fit with the experimental data. The capacity increased after CS...

Most galvanic process industries treat their effluents by chemical precipitation methods. Such a method produces an amount of sludge that is often disposed inappropriately to the environment, causing major environmental damage. These rejects present high concentrations toxic metallic ions, such as copper (Cu(II)), lead (Pb(II)), nickel (Ni(II)), and cadmium (Cd(II)). Several alternatives have been proposed contribute in cheaper efficient way these effluents. This study aimed describe results...
