The post-traumatic fat embolism syndrome is a multisystem disorder characterized by pulmonary and neurologic dysfunction, pyrexia, petechial rash1–4. More than century after the first descriptions of syndrome, cause emboli pathogenesis systemic manifestations this remain incompletely understood. We describe patient undergoing treatment femoral fracture in whom massive was demonstrated transesophageal echocardiography. Acute cor pulmonale developed, precipitating paradoxical across patent...

Both saturated (SFA) and unsaturated fatty acids (UFS) inhibited PHA- PPD-induced lymphocyte transformation. The degree of inhibition varied with the nature acid (FA) further comparison their effect on unstimulated cultures suggests a specific action polyunsaturated (PUFA) -PPD interaction. These findings are briefly discussed in light similar observations PUFA-derived prostaglandins.

Abstract MLKL is the essential effector of necroptosis, a form programmed lytic cell death. We have isolated mouse strain with single missense mutation, Mlkl D139V , that alters two-helix ‘brace’ connects killer four-helix bundle and regulatory pseudokinase domains. This confers constitutive, RIPK3 independent killing activity to MLKL. Homozygous mutant mice develop lethal postnatal inflammation salivary glands mediastinum. The normal embryonic development homozygotes until birth, absence...

Background. Normothermic perfusion has been shown to resuscitate and maintain viability of non–heart-beating donor (NHBD) livers that have undergone significant warm ischemic injury. However, the logistics clinical organ retrieval are complex, a period cold storage before preservation would simplify process. We investigated effects short duration normothermic on function porcine NHBD livers. Methods. Porcine were subjected 60 minutes ischemia then assigned following groups: group W (n=5),...

Abstract: This study was undertaken to compare the efficacy and safety of tacrolimus (Tac) with cyclosporin microemulsion (CyA) in pediatric renal recipients. A 6‐month, randomized, prospective, open, parallel group an open extension phase conducted 18 centers from nine European countries. In total, 196 patients (<18 yr) were randomly assigned (1:1) receive either Tac (n = 103) or CyA 93) administered concomitantly azathioprine corticosteroids. The primary endpoint incidence time first...

Summary Intra‐ocular pressure was measured before and throughout airway establishment with either the laryngeal mask or tracheal tube. Similar measurements were made on removal of amount coughing noted in first minute after removal. There a significantly smaller increase intra‐ocular (p < 0.001) using airway, both placement removal, than Postoperative reduced 0.001). greater rise heart rate tube 0.01) probably related to an increased cardiovascular response. Abstract Background Obesity is prevalent in patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D) and negatively impacts outcomes. While studies the general population have established a link between sleep duration obesity, this relationship T2D remains unclear. Objectives To assess association adiposity T2D. Methods This prospective study of adults enrolled SLEEP from 13 UK NHS Trusts. Sleep was self‐reported using Pittsburgh Quality Index (PSQI) categorized as short (≤ 6 h/ night), long (> 9 h/night) or...

Summary A novel way to use polymer injection suppress the influx of a strong edge aquifer in shallow, dipping reservoir containing 15-cp [15-mPa·s] oil and thereby improve volumetric sweep has been investigated. Experimental studies were undertaken determine appropriate properties, which then used simulation establish oil-recovery profiles.
