Due to increased global concern over the deleterious effects of toxic heavy metals in environment, it has become necessary develop plant genotypes that limit uptake aerial edible parts. To address this concern, we performed a glasshouse experiment assess variations within tomato germplasm for cadmium (Cd) tolerance under control conditions and simulated stress conditions. Significant differences (P < 0.01) were observed among all at both Cd levels (3 ppm 6 ppm). Our analyses showed 9086,...
Herbaria represent a global biodiversity heritage essential for botanical research and conservation assessments. Despite their importance, herbaria in many parts of the world—especially under-resourced regions such as much Africa—are “silent”. These silent collections are poorly integrated into networks hence underused especially vulnerable to neglect. Here, we illustrate these problems through detailed case-study Nigerian demonstrate that assessments can be dramatically improved when...
Leaf epidermal micro morphological features were studied in five verities of Capsicum annum L. both quantitatively and qualitatively to evaluate the reliability these characters for taxonomic consideration. These varieties are difficult be recognized by using their dry samples.Varieties include var.abbreviatum, var.annuum, var.accuminatum, var.grossum var.glabriusculum.Two types stomata (anisocytic tetracytic) identified all leaves amphistomatic. There was high frequency anisocytic (66.67...
Seedlings recovered from underdeveloped seeds of different commercial cultivars Citrus were studied for their ploidy level. Cytological examination revealed that maximum triploid plants found in lime Kaghzi (15.5%) followed by grapefruit Foster, mandarin Kinnow, sweet orange Musambi and Feutrell's Early (7.3%). Lime also produced the highest percentage tetraploids (9.1%) Kinnow while minimum was Early. The polyploids transplanted pots after hardening they grown greenhouse further...
Sesamum (Sesamum indicum L.), is a very beneficial plant with manifold implementation in human life hence the identification of different species on basis morphological indeed need especially less developed parts world. Morphometric studies 12 accessions were carried out order to find characters which may be used for delimitation accessions. Both quantitative and qualitative characteristics leaves, stems, flowers, stipule, node, fruit pods growth type studied coded. Numerical analysis these...
Oidium mangiferae Berthet was found to be associated With the powdery mildew disease of mango. The air- borne conidia are released from old tissue harboring dormant fungal hyphae under favorable weather conditions, which produce disease. Proper forecasting release airborne innoculum significantly reduced required number sprays needed for chemical control. Spore traps were used monitor concentration during months February, March and April 1996 l997. Daily temperature relative humidity noted...
Different elite strains of Guava cultivars 'Round' and 'Pyriform' collected from a single locality were evaluated for phenotypic, physico-chemical genetic variation.Phenotypic variability was observed in leaf fruit physical traits. In strains, variation shape other traits less compared to strains.Strains Gola No. 1 'G1', Surahi 'S' Large 'LS', had seeds with strains.Among strain 'G1' 'LS' better most the chemical traits, TSS:TA total sugars showed among Small 'SG' TS.Overall, non-reducing...
The wide range of uses Moringa oleifera in recent time has witnessed increasing demand its foliar and seed products nutritional, medical ecological applications. upsurge for these needs to be balanced with new varieties improved performance meet the supply chain. To achieve this, morphological diversity assessment is prerequisite future crop improvement programme. Therefore, numerical analyses external morphology leaf fruit thirty accessions were assessed. study was carried out on both...
The growth and yield of three maize cultivars were examined in relation to the impact Municipal Solid Wastes (MSW) enriched soil. According results, plants grown on soil treated with MSW inorganic fertilizer (NPK) produced significantly (P≤0.05) taller plants, larger leaves higher number than control On other hand, soils fertilized 1 showed greater values these indicators. study also demonstrated that cultivar TZE yellow, EVDT 99 Comp-1-synthetic no significant variation at later stage but...
Guava (Psidium guajava L.) is commercially propagated by seeds in Punjab and vegetative propagation systems are lacking. Propagation stem cuttings handicapped the non-availability of plant material bulk for season dependency. Hence, juvenile mini softwood (MSW) shoot (3"-4") Gola (Round) cultivar having two to three nodes were treated with growth regulators (PGRs) including indole butyric acid ‘IBA’ or naphthalene acetic ‘NAA’ combinations benzyl aminopurine ‘BAP’ planted sand, silt coco...
The level of heavy metal pollution (Cd, Cr, Pb, Ni, and Zn) in farmland soils treated with Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) Inorganic fertilizer (NPK) Bauchi metropolis, state, Nigeria was evaluated. Soil samples were collected at a depth 0-30cm from three locations fertilized municipal solid waste (MSW 1 soil, MSW 2 soil 3 soil), one inorganic (NPK), uncultivated land. subjected to physicochemical analysis using standard procedures. results showed that had significantly more sand less silt clay...
Fresh leaves of twelve accessions Sesamum indicum were collected after 12 weeks planting and morphological-histology trichomes studied. These features may be used for the delimitation determination pharmaceutical potentials accessions. found to exhibit high degree heterogeneity in their trichome features. Nine types observed: unicellular, glandular peltate, capitate glandular, long unbranched uniseriate, short scale, multicellular, multiseriate branched uniseriate trichomes. Lale-duk...
