Abstract Aim To determine the role of regional forcing on plot‐level species diversity and composition, to quantify relative importance biogeographical climatic factors in explaining woody plant composition at local‐, island‐ archipelago‐scale. Location Forty‐one tropical islands Indo‐Pacific region from Madagascar Hawai‘i Island. Methods We analysed communities located across 113 plots, 41 19 archipelagos. used generalized linear mixed‐effects models dissimilarity island archipelago scale...
• Premise of the study: Crop wild relatives represent important genetic resources for crop improvement and preservation native biodiversity. Eggplant ( Solanum melongena ), known as brinjal in India, ranks high among crops whose gene pools are underrepresented ex situ collections warrant urgent conservation. Knowledge outcrossing rates patterns variation populations can aid designing strategies both preservation. Methods: We used 14 microsatellite (simple sequence repeat) markers to examine...
•In India and elsewhere, transgenic Bt eggplant (Solanum melongena) has been developed to reduce insect herbivore damage, but published studies of the potential for pollen-mediated, crop- to- wild gene flow are scant. This information is useful risk assessments as well in situ conservation strategies germplasm.•In 2010-2014, we surveyed 23 populations wild/weedy insanum; known brinjal), carried out hand-pollination experiments, observed pollinators assess southern India.•Wild brinjal a...
Species abundance distributions (SADs) characterise the distribution of individuals among species. SADs have rarely been explored on islands and ecological processes shaping are still not fully understood. Notably, relative importance disturbance regime in plant remains poorly known. We investigate island geography shape SADs. computed for local tree communities 1‐ha forest plots 20 tropical Indo‐Pacific region. used generalized linear models to analyse how parameter gambin SAD model was...
We investigated tree diversity in 'giant evergreen forest' of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, which falls within the Indo-Burma hot spot biodiversity world. A one hectare square plot was established sites Kalapahad (KP) Macarthy Valley (MV) Middle Andamans, all trees ≥30 cm girth at breast height (gbh) were enumerated. Tree totaled 105 species that belonged to 63 genera 49 families. Site MV harboured ~10% greater richness than KP. Species indices did not vary much between two sites. In sites,...
Abstract Background Fall armyworm (FAW) Spodoptera frugiperda , also called ‘whorlworm’ is a global pest threatening maize production. Larvae stay in the whorl of maize/sweet corn and efficient delivery insecticides or bio-agents major issue for its successful management. Biological control FAW through entomopathogenic nematodes (EPNs) offers promise, as EPNs are soil colonizers commercially available various formulations, sand can ideally be exploited natural substrate targeting under field...
ABSTRACT Sixteen isolates of bacteria obtained from the entomopathogenic nematode ( Heterorhabditis sp.) infected cadavers Galleria mellonella larvae were identified following phenotypic characterization and molecular analysis 16S rRNA . Two as symbiotic bacterium, Photothabdus luminescens , while 14 other represented by nine species nonsymbiotic viz., Stenotrophomonas maltophilia Alcaligenes aquatilis, Brevundimonas diminuta Brucella pseudointermedia Ochrobactrum sp., pseudogrignonensis...
This experiment is a standardisation of plantation techniques four native, promising forestry species, namely, Dalbergia latifolia, Terminalia arjuna, bellirica and Gmelina arborea, with respect to effects tree spacing, pit size irrigation. The was set up in tropical mixed deciduous forest patch Madhya Pradesh, central India. We tested three spacings (2 m × 2 m, 3 5 m), sizes (30 cm 30 cm× cm, 45 60 cm) two moisture regimes (rainfed irrigated).Growth data were recorded for years, from the...
Studies were conducted in SFD controlled pruned tendu bushes dominating forests and CFR non-pruned poles bearing Gondia Gadchiroli forest divisions of Maharashtra to assess the impact pruning on yield quality its leaves. This tree species has attained great economic importance due leaves being used as wrappers bidi (Indian cigarette) industry is good source ofrevenue generation states like M.P., Maharashtra, Odisha U.P. Pruned contributed more than five times healthy (60.33%) (11.90%). Gall...
Carbon stock in different pools viz. trees, ground flora, litter, deadwood and soil was estimated Panna, Pench Satpura tiger reserves (TRs) for comparison adjoining territorial forests (TFs), Balai Hingana of Madhya Pradesh, India. Annual carbon sequestration assessed by the difference stocks two consecutive years. Tree density TRs higher than TFs number trees ha-1 under girth classes represented good reverse J-shaped curve where more 90 percent belong to smaller GBH range 30-120cm. have...
Fondaparinux is the first approved anticoagulant drug among factor Xa inhibitors, with proven effectiveness and safety in preventing deep vein thrombosis. However, limited data are available supporting benefit-risk profile of fondaparinux vs enoxaparin a real-world group Indian patients thrombosis. To compare tolerability symptomatic thrombosis long-term setting.Data from electronic medical records adult diagnosed prescribed (n = 503) or 508) as monotherapy were analyzed. Effectiveness was...
Buchanania cochinchinensis, a socio-economically important forest tree species, faces high levels of exploitation. Originated from the Indian subcontinent, little is known about patterns habitat distribution and climatic factors that shape its suitability. Using high-resolution environmental data for current future climate scenarios, we studied present suitable habitats B. cochinchinensis by MaxEnt. We evaluated bioclimatic variables identified shifts under different change scenarios....
