Knowledge on biodiversity is fundamental for conservation strategies. The Brazilian Pampa region, located in subtropical southern Brazil, neglected terms of conservation, and knowledge its fragmented. We aim to answer the question: how many, which, species occur Pampa? In a collaborative effort, we built lists plants, animals, bacteria, fungi that Pampa. included information distribution patterns, main habitat types, status. Our study resulted referenced totaling 12,503 (12,854 taxa, when...
Studies concerning Convolvulaceae in southern Brazil have revealed many novelties, such as new species and range extensions. In the present paper, three are described: Calystegia brummittii, Convolvulus ensifolius Ipomoea mirabilis. Descriptions, illustrations data on distribution conservation status provided.
(2786) Ipomoea L., Sp. Pl.: 159. 1 Mai 1753 [Convolvul.], nom. cons. Typus: I. triloba typ. prop. L. is the largest (650–900 species, depending on concept adopted) and most iconic genus in Convolvulaceae, a family of c. 1880 species (data from Staples, Convolvulaceae Unlimited, 2012 at: http//convolvulaceae.myspecies.info), including important crop sweetpotato, batatas (L.) Lam. (Tabl. Encycl. 1: 465. 1793), several ornamental commonly known as "bindweeds" or "morning glories" (Wilkin Kew...
Hallier f., digitata (Spreng.) f. var. digitata, elongata (Choisy) D.F.Austin & Staples, dissecta (Jacq.) hassleriana (Chodat) Hassl., macrocalyx (Ruiz Pav.) O'Donell, tomentosa tuberosa (L.) Rendle umbellata São fornecidos chave...
Most studies concerning climbing plants have focused on lianas, forest ecosystems, and tropical regions. Thus, the majority of existing information is not relevant to all (lianas vines) or ecoregions world (forested non-forested). We provide an update floristic distributional data available for in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil's southernmost state, which located within subtropical temperate zones includes a variety non-forest vegetation types. A total 448 plant species were confirmed documented...
Abstract A proposal to change the conserved type of Ipomoea was published in December 2020, and recommended by Nomenclature Committee 2023. This done light possible negative consequences for a name crop sweetpotato, which risk our would significantly minimize. Recently, Muñoz‐Rodríguez & al. have rebuttal this proposal, we respond here. The objections raised these authors focus as much on expertise credibility group merits arguments. In “rebuttal rebuttal”, scientific questions raised,...
A new species of Clematis (Ranunculaceae) from the Southern Brazilian Plateau is described here. The shares similarities with C. denticulata and ulbrichiana, but can be distinguished mainly by staminate partial inflorescences in compressed cymes (false whorls), pyriform flower buds, fewer carpels. Along description, we provide a preliminary extinction risk assessment photographic plates for species. Identification keys Atlantic Forest Biome are also presented.
The genus Cuscuta L. (Convolvulaceae) are holoparasitic plants with cosmopolitan distributions, and they usually difficult to identify. Based on several new field collections, we present three floristic records from this in Central-West Brazil. platyloba Progel partita Choisy cited for the first time Mato Grosso do Sul state, while xanthochortos var. carinata Mart., which was previously only known southern Brazil, is also shown be region of country. An identification key species provided.
The Porto Alegre Botanical Garden (JBPA) aims at the conservation of native flora in Rio Grande do Sul and represents one main green areas city. Through periodic collections, we made a floristic inventory naturally occurring climbers JBPA. For each species, attributes growth form, climbing mechanism dispersal syndrome were described. Identification keys for species based on vegetative characters are presented. We recorded 81 which eight exotic, belonging to 58 genera 30 families. three...
