Acid hydrolysis can be more efficient than water hydrolysis, particularly in breaking down cured adhesives found waste panels within a shorter reaction time that could benefit large-scale industrial processes. This study evaluates the effects of various acid conditions on thermal, physical, and chemical properties recycled particles intended for particleboard production. Particleboards were using oxalic ammonium chloride at different concentrations times 122 °C. The thermal stability was...

During the thermal modification of wood there is a decreasing gradient temperature from surface to its interior, therefore, most severe chemical modifications occur on surface. These directly affect quality and durability adhesives coating. Therefore, this study investigated thermally-modified teak juvenile wood. Heartwood sapwood samples were treated at 180 200ºC. Chemical analyses performed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) in reflectance mode with microscope. Spectra...

Abstract The objectives of this study were to improve the dimensional stability medium-density fibreboard (MDF) by heat treatment and determine effects on mechanical properties vertical density profile panels. MDF panels produced from untreated fibres treated at two different temperatures (150 180°C) for 15, 30 60 min. Panels heat-treated showed an important reduction in thickness swelling water absorption after soaking. Linear expansion contraction not improved treatment. Thickness repeated...

There is very little published information about variation in the wood properties of African tree species. To expand markets for products from these species, we must understand factors that affect properties, and select best species sites to produce with preferred properties. Wood color may be affected by edaphic climatic conditions, age, density, other biological environmental factors. The major objective this research was determine if mean variability variables (L*, a*, b*) Balanites...

This study investigated the effect of heat treatment on wettability surface juvenile teak (Tectona grandis) wood assessed by drop shape analyzer. Heartwood and sapwood samples were heat-treated at 180 200ºC. Contact angle measurements done every 5 s for 120 using a KRÜSS DSA100. had lower than sapwood. Heat-treatment decreased both heartwood sapwood, especially in treated even after treatment.
