SUMMARY The iv glucose-tolerance test was performed in 71 diabetic dogs (fasting glycemia > 6.70 mmol/L) and 20 healthy dogs. All were characterized by various degrees of glucose intolerance as expressed an abnormal disappearance coefficient. On the basis fasting plasma insulin concentration (Io), peak response ( ipr ), insulinogenic index (ΔΙ/ΔG), total secretion tis classified, follows: Type I (n = 32) which had severe clinical signs diabetes absence certain diagnostic responses: Io, ,...

We used single-photon absorptiometry to assess forearm bone mineral content (BMC/BW) (arbitrary units normalized for width) at a proximal site (PBMC/BW) and more distal (DBMC/BW) in 60 women treated with 25-50 micrograms T3 or 50-100 T4 euthyroid goitre, 13 untreated goitre patients, 2 controls matched age menopausal state each patient. BMC/BW was not significantly different between patients controls. In 36 premenopausal 5.8 +/- 5.4 years (mean SD) slight decrease PBMC/BW of about 5%...

A 30-year old woman with a history of recurrent goiter, who had undergone two partial thyroidectomies, is described. She presented tachycardia, nervousness and fine tremor the fingers. Initially, she normal serum thyroid hormone levels: thyroxine (T4 (D)) 11.6 μg/100 ml, triiodothyronine (T3) 138 ng/100 levels binding proteins very high thyrotropin (TSH), 98 μU/ml During follow-up T4 (D) increased to 17.2 T3 277 while TSH decreased 11 μU/ml. There was an exaggerated response peak value 550...

ABSTRACT The low dose intravenous glucose tolerance test (IVGTT) and the insulin response to load were performed in a series of twenty–two diabetic dogs. All dogs characterized by intolerance as expressed an abnormal half time (Tl/2) or fractional turnover rate (k) for clearance. On basis initial level (Io), peak (Ip) insulinogenic index (I/G), classified into three types. Type I Io, Ip I/G glucose, similar juvenile form diabetes humans. II normal high but also with which are some features...

The method of Van der Vies (5) for the determination plasma cortisol has been investigated and found to be a reliable routine clinical purposes. This does not involve chromatography, trained technician can obtain result within 5 hr, taking fluorescence reading 10 min after adding reagent omitting preliminary light petroleum washing plasma. Under these conditions normal level at 8 am is 14.6 ± 3.7 μg/100 ml.

ABSTRACT The literature on aetiocholanolone fever is reviewed. Case reports of two brothers suffering from are described. In both patients the non-esterified level blood was raised not only during pyrexial attacks but also fever-free periods. During one period an extremely high found. Cortisone therapy neither shortened periods or influenced plasma aetiocholanolone.
