Abstract The Araçuaí–West Congo orogen encompasses orogenic domains located to the SE of São Francisco Craton in Brazil, and SW Africa. From opening precursor basin last processes, evolution lasted from very beginning Neoproterozoic up Cambrian–Ordovician boundary. After spreading South Atlantic Ocean Cretaceous time, was split into two quite different but complementary counterparts. Brazilian side (Araçuaí orogen) inherited thirds whole edifice, including all ophiolite slivers, entire...

Abstract The Araçuaí orogen extends from the eastern edge of São Francisco craton to Atlantic margin, in southeastern Brazil. Orogenic igneous rocks, formed c. 630 480 Ma, cover one third this huge area, building up Eastern Brazilian Pegmatite Province and most important dimension stone province G1 supersuite (630–585 Ma) mainly consists tonalite granodiorite, with mafic dioritic facies enclaves, representing a continental calc-alkaline magmatic arc. G2 mostly includes S-type granites during...

This article presents new lithochemical and geochronological data obtained from gneisses granites occurring in the region located to east of Rio Doce calc-alkaline arc (630 -580 Ma), which corresponds back-arc basin Araçuaí orogen. The Nova Venécia Complex, represents most fertile source peraluminous granitic melts studied zone.It mostly consists migmatitic Al-rich paragneisses, ranging biotite-rich biotite-free cordierite-rich granulites, whose main protoliths were graywacky sediments.An...
